The Colts on Saturday activated cornerback JuJu Brents off injured reserve, clearing the way for the 2023 second-round pick to play in Week 18 – which would be his first game since sustaining a knee injury in Week 1.
Brents' meniscus and PCL were injured in the second quarter of the Colts' season opener; the injury happened when he leapt to make a play on a deep ball to Houston Texans wide receiver Nico Collins. Brents finished the game and didn't think much of it until a scan a few days later revealed an injury much more severe than he expected.
The Colts placed Brents on injured reserve on Sept. 10. While he was given low odds to return in 2024, he didn't give up on trying to get back late in the season. In Week 16, the Colts opened Brents' 21-day practice window (which allows him to participate in practice while still being on injured reserve), and after three weeks of practicing, Brents will be available to play in Sunday's season finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
On Friday, Brents was asked what he's learned about himself through a lengthy rehab process that held him out of game action from Week 2 through Week 17.
"I'm resilient, man," Brents said. "You go face adversity – we all know that it's football, things are gonna happen. (You) can't control a lot of it but just being resilient with the things that get thrown you. So throughout this process, just trying to stay level-headed, continue to just go about it day by day, do my best to stay connected with the team, so when that time do come to potentially be able to get back out there, I'm ready to go."
In a corresponding roster move, the Colts on Saturday waived cornerback Chris Lammons.
