INDIANAPOLIS — The Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday added some size to the interior of their defensive line, signing free agent defensive tackle Chunky Clements.
In a corresponding move, the Colts waived defensive tackle Johnny Robinson.
The 24-year-old Clements — who stands at 6 foot 3 and weighs 301 pounds — originally entered the NFL back in 2017 with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent. He was released during final cuts just before the start of the regular season.
Clements was picked up the next month by the Houston Texans, who signed him to their practice squad. He would be promoted to the active roster in November, waived, re-signed to the practice squad and then signed again to the active roster over the final eight weeks of the 2017 season.
During that span, Clements played in two games with the Texans, logging two tackles, a half-sack and one quarterback hit.
Clements signed with the Los Angeles Rams last offseason and played in all four preseason games with the team, logging six tackles, before being waived at the end of training camp. Clements has since spent time with the Arizona Hotshots of the Alliance of American Football.
Collegiately, Clements played in 46 games (20 starts) at Illinois and compiled 99 tackles (43 solo), 25.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, five passes defensed, four forced fumbles and one fumble recovery.
