Colts sign 7 undrafted free agents

The Colts made the roster moves on Thursday.

Indianapolis – The Indianapolis Colts today signed five of their draft picks from the 2024 NFL Draft, including defensive end Laiatu Latu, linebacker Jaylon Carlies, cornerback Jaylin Simpson, cornerback Micah Abraham and defensive tackle Jonah Laulu.

The Colts also signed seven undrafted free agents, including quarterback/wide receiver Jason Bean, running back Trent Pennix, kicker Spencer Shrader, quarterback Kedon Slovis, guard Dalton Tucker, wide receiver Xavier White and linebacker Craig Young.

Bean, 6-2, 196 pounds, played in 51 career games (30 starts) at Kansas (2021-23) and North Texas (2018-20) and completed 414-of-699 passes for 5,969 yards with 55 touchdowns and 26 interceptions. He also compiled 251 carries for 1,344 yards (5.4 avg.) and 14 touchdowns. In 2023, Bean saw action in 12 games (10 starts) and completed 124-of-199 passes for 2,130 yards with 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also registered 47 carries for 280 yards (6.0 avg.) and three touchdowns.

Pennix, 6-2, 234 pounds, played in 54 career games (15 starts) at North Carolina State (2018-23) at tight end and running back. He compiled 55 receptions for 712 yards (12.9 avg.) and 11 touchdowns. Pennix also registered 41 carries for 240 yards (5.9 avg.) and one touchdown. In 2023, he appeared in 12 games (eight starts) and finished with 15 receptions for 190 yards (12.7 avg.) and three touchdowns. Pennix also tallied two carries for 67 yards (33.5 avg.) and one touchdown. His last name is pronounced penn-ICKS.

Shrader, 6-2, 201 pounds, appeared in 57 career games at Notre Dame (2023) and USF (2019-22) and converted 43-of-63 field goals and 156-of-158 extra points for 285 points. In 2023, he played in all 13 games and made 15-of-22 field goals and 61-of-62 extra points for 106 points. Shrader was a Lou Groza Award Semifinalist in 2021. He was born in Indianapolis. His last name is pronounced Sh-RAID-err.

Slovis, 6-3, 223 pounds, started 45-of-46 career games at BYU (2023), Pittsburgh (2022) and USC (2019-21) and completed 989-of-1,533 passes for 11,689 yards with 80 touchdowns and 39 interceptions. He also recorded three rushing touchdowns. In 2023, Slovis started eight games and completed 153-of-266 passes for 1,716 yards with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also tallied three rushing touchdowns. Slovis earned First Team All-Pac-12 honors in 2020. He was named the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the Year in 2019 after setting the conference single-season record completion percentage (71.9). His name is pronounced KEE-den SLOH-vis.

Tucker, 6-6, 307 pounds, played in 51 career games (30 starts) along the offensive line at Marshall (2018-23). He registered starts at right guard (22), right tackle (five) and left tackle (three). In 2023, Tucker started all 13 games, including 10 starts at right guard and three at right tackle. He earned Honorable Mention All-SBC honors in 2023.

White, 5-10, 190 pounds, saw action in 51 career games (nine starts) at Texas Tech (2019-23) and compiled 133 receptions for 1,524 yards (11.5 avg.) and six touchdowns. He also registered 136 carries for 754 yards (5.5 avg.) and five touchdowns. In the return game, White totaled 19 kickoff returns for 407 yards (21.4 avg.) and five punt returns for 46 yards (9.2 avg.). In 2023, he played in all 13 games (four starts) and caught 39 passes for a team-leading 556 yards (14.3 avg.) and one touchdown. White also contributed four kickoff returns for 74 yards (18.5 avg.) and three punt returns for 31 yards (10.3 avg.).

Young, 6-3, 226 pounds, appeared in 49 career games (24 starts) at Kansas (2022-23) and Ohio State (2019-21) and totaled 126 tackles (85 solo), 11.0 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, 10 passes defensed, three interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) and one forced fumble. In 2023, he played in 12 games (11 starts) and finished with 41 tackles (29 solo), 5.0 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, four passes defensed and one interception. Young is from Fort Wayne, Ind.
