The Colts added to their quarterback room on Day 3 of the 2025 NFL Draft, selecting Notre Dame signal-caller Riley Leonard with the first of their two sixth-round picks (No. 189 overall) on Saturday.

The 6-foot-3, 216 pound Leonard transferred to Notre Dame from Duke in 2024 and led the Irish to the College Football Playoff final. He completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 2,861 yards with 21 touchdowns and eight interceptions, and was also a physical threat as a running, rushing 184 times for 906 yards with 17 touchdowns.

The Irish went 14-2 with Leonard, who was named a team captain, behind center in 2024.

Prior to Notre Dame, Leonard played three seasons at Duke (2021-2023), where he started 21 games and was named a team captain in 2023. In 2022, Leonard completed 63.9 percent of his passes for 2,967 yards with 20 touchdowns and six interceptions; he added 699 yards on 124 carries with 13 rushing touchdowns as well.

The 22-year-old Leonard will join a Colts quarterback room that returns 2023 No. 4 overall pick Anthony Richardson and added veteran Daniel Jones in free agency this offseason.

A native of Fairhope, Ala., Leonard starred in football and basketball at Fairhope High School.
