Indianapolis – The Indianapolis Colts today activated defensive end Tyquan Lewis from the Injured Reserve list and waived defensive end Genard Avery. The team also elevated guard Atonio Mafi to the active roster from the practice squad for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions.
Lewis, 6-3, 267 pounds, was placed on the team's Injured Reserve list on October 1. He has played in 69 career games (19 starts) in seven seasons (2018-24) with Indianapolis and has registered 112 tackles (77 solo), 28.0 tackles for loss, 15.0 sacks, 10 passes defensed, one interception and one forced fumble. Lewis has also appeared in one postseason contest and tallied three solo tackles. He was originally selected by the Colts in the second round (64th overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Ohio State. In 2024, Lewis started the first four games of the season and compiled 17 tackles (10 solo), 2.0 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
Avery, 6-0, 250 pounds, has spent time on the team's active roster and practice squad this season. He was originally signed by Indianapolis as a free agent on June 1, 2023. Avery has played in 63 career games (17 starts) in his time with the Colts (2023-24), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2022), Philadelphia Eagles (2019-21) and Cleveland Browns (2018-19). He has compiled 100 tackles (61 solo), 12.0 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, five passes defensed, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and six special teams stops. Avery has also appeared in one postseason contest and registered one tackle.
Mafi, 6-3, 330 pounds, was elevated in Week 11 and played against the New York Jets. He was signed to the team's practice squad on August 29, 2024. Mafi participated in the New England Patriots' 2024 offseason program and training camp. As a rookie in 2023, he played in all 17 games (five starts at left guard) for the Patriots. Mafi was originally selected by New England in the fifth round (144th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft out of UCLA. His name is pronounced AH-tonio MA-fee.
