HOT OFF THE PRESS

For the second time during the post-season, Patrick Sandler converted a game-winning field goal, helping No. 1 (Class 4A) Indianapolis Roncalli to a 24-21 victory over East Central. Sandler's 30-yard kick as time expired lifted the Rebels into the title game for the first time since 2005.

Will Harrison booted three field goals, including the go-ahead 53-yard kick, as Westfield snapped defending Class 5A state champion Fort Wayne Snider's 18-game winning with a 23-17 victory.

Avery Hall accounted for both touchdowns as Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter ended defending Class 2A state champion Monrovia's 10-game post-season winning streak with a 14-13 triumph. A missed two-point conversion ended the Bulldogs' hopes of repeating.

Trey Bilinski's one-yard dive into the end zone with 1:53 left in regulation helped No. 2 (Class 4A) NorthWood earn its first trip to the state championship game since 2005 with a 21-14 win at Lowell.

Russ Yeast ran for 174 yards and three scores, leading defending Class 6A state champion Center Grove to a 42-22 win over Ben Davis. The Trojans are the only team to return to the title game from last year.

Jalen Walker hauled in a pair of touchdown passes to help Carmel to a 21-10 win over No. 2 (Class 6A) Penn.

Austin Bowling rambled for 206 yards and three touchdowns as Lawrenceburg earned its first trip to the state finals since 1985 with a 41-40 win over No. 9 (Class 3A) Brownstown Central. The Braves pulled within a point with 1:23 left in the game, but came up short on the potential game-winning two-point conversion.

Peter Morrison tossed for 279 yards and five touchdowns as No. 7 (Class 3A) Fort Wayne Concordia captured its first semistate with a 56-42 victory over Garrett.

Blayne Altum's three-yard touchdown run with 18.7 seconds left lifted No. 3 (Class 2A) Eastbrook to a 20-13 win over No. 2 Whiting. The Panthers are returning to the state finals for the first time since 2004.

Jamon Hogan scampered for 278 yards and two scores, leading No. 4 (Class 5A) Columbus East to a 35-15 win over No. 3 Bloomington South.

Tyler Meurer raced for 181 yards and three touchdowns and returned an interception for another tally in No. 2 (Class 1A) Linton-Stockton's 43-14 triumph over Indianapolis Lutheran.

Jack Kiser ran for a pair of touchdowns in No. 3 (Class 1A) Pioneer's 22-8 win over No. 6 Adams Central.

Caleb Cherry resigned at Wood Memorial after a three-year stint. Cherry finished with an 0-20 mark amid the hazing allegations which forced the Trojans to cancel the 2016 season. Cherry also stepped down as the varsity boys track and field coach.
