The Colts on Wednesday opened the 21-day practice windows for center Ryan Kelly and linebacker Jaylon Carlies, head coach Shane Steichen said.
Both players are eligible to participate in practice beginning Wednesday, and Kelly and/or Carlies can be activated from injured reserve at any point in the next three weeks.
Kelly was placed on injured reserve on Nov. 5 with a knee injury. The 31-year-old Kelly – the longest-tenured member of the Colts and a four-time Pro Bowler – has started seven games in 2024, allowing just one sack in 222 pass blocking snaps, per Pro Football Focus.
Carlies, a 2024 fifth-round pick, sustained a fibula injury in Week 7 and was placed on injured reserve Oct. 26. Over seven games (three starts), Carlies has 21 tackles, one tackle for a loss, one sack and one pass break-up.
Kelly was listed as a limited participant while Carlies fully participated in Wednesday's practice.
Wide receiver Josh Downs, who missed the Colts' Week 13 win over the New England Patriots with a shoulder injury, was limited on Wednesday. Downs, despite missing three games this season, leads the Colts with 53 receptions and is second in targets (78), yards (594) and touchdowns (four).
