Started two postseason contests and had four solo tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, one pass defensed and one fumble recovery.
His five forced fumbles ranked second on the team and fifth in the NFL.

Won the 2014 Deacon Jones Award, given annually to the NFL leader in sacks. His 22.0 sacks set a franchise record for a single season and are tied for second in NFL history, only trailing Michael Strahan in 2001 (22.5).
Totaled six multiple-sack games including a 4.0-sack performance in the season finale against San Diego (12/28).

Earned AFC Defensive Player of the Week following Week 1 and Week 3, eventually being named AFC Defensive Player of the Month for September after compiling 19 tackles, 7.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble. He became the first Chiefs linebacker to win the award since Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Derrick Thomas in 1997.
Had a single-game career-high 4.5 sacks at Philadelphia (9/19).

Played in 36 games (24 starts) at Georgia and totaled 125 tackles (70 solo), 38.0 tackles for loss, 20.0 sacks, five passes defensed, one interception, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Moved to linebacker as a junior and was named the team's most valuable player, earned First Team All-SEC and First Team All-America honors by Football Writers Association of America after he started 13 games and finished third on the team in tackles with 67 (38 solo), while also ranking second in the SEC in sacks (10.0) and tackles for loss (18.5). He also added two passes defensed and one interception. He was a finalist for the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, given to the best defensive player in the nation.
In 2009, he was an All-SEC second team selection after starting 10 games and recording 39 tackles (22 solo) and a conference leading 15.0 tackles for loss. Also had one pass defensed and one forced fumble.
As a redshirt freshman, appeared in 13 games (one start) and accumulated 19 tackles (10 solo), 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and two passes defensed.
Redshirted the 2007 season.

Attended Statesboro (Ga.) High School and was named an Atlanta Journal-Constitution class AAAA All-State honorable mention selection.
Was named the best prospect the Georgia Top 50 selection.
Earned all-region honors as a junior and senior.
As a junior, he led the football team to a 4A state championship.
