TOP HEADLINES

Carmel and Warren Central earned spots in the first Class 6A state championship game on Nov. 30 with semistate wins. The No. 3 Greyhounds (10-3) upset top-ranked Penn, 28-13 in the north, while the No. 4 Warriors (10-3) slipped past No. 2 Center Grove, 12-7, for honors in the south.

New Palestine ended Indianapolis Bishop Chatard's 21-game playoff winning streak with a 27-14 triumph in a Class 4A regional finale.

Longtime Speedway coach Denny Pelley announced his retirement after 24 seasons with the Sparkplugs and 39 years overall. Pelley was 196-82 at Speedway, including an 8-4 mark this year, and 290-134 over his career.

Fort Wayne Northrop coach Tim Martone stepped down after four seasons. Martone was 12-28 with the Bruins, including a 2-8 record in 2013.

Terre Haute North tallied its first (Class 5A) regional championship with a 56-21 decision over Bloomington North.

East Chicago Central captured its first (Class 4A) regional crown with a thrilling 38-37 overtime win over No. 3 and previously unbeaten New Prairie.

Brebeuf Jesuit won its first (Class 3A) regional title with a 38-17 triumph over Guerin Catholic.

Tri-Central earned its first (Class 1A) regional trophy with a 28-7 win over South Adams.

Eastern Hancock grabbed its first (Class 1A) since 1985 with a 29-14 win over South Putnam.
