INDIANAPOLIS – It's not often Adam Vinatieri lets on how impressed he is with a certain accomplishment.
But this achievement Vinny obtained late in 2016 even had him astonished.
Following the Colts' season finale win over the Jaguars, Vinny moved one rung higher on the NFL's all-time wins list.
Vinny now has won 201 career regular season games, the second most in NFL history.
"That's pretty cool," Vinny said after reaching the rare 200-win plateau. "I've been fortunate to play on some really good football teams. A decade plus here with great leadership and great talent.
"If you play long enough I guess they stack up. So pretty amazing especially when you consider how many people have played in this league and there's only a handful of guys that have ever gotten there."
Vinny and long-time kicker Gary Anderson sit in a tie for second place with 201 career regular season wins.
George Blanda tops the list, but is in reach though, at 209 wins.
With Vinatieri eight wins away from tying Blanda, there's certainly a chance for that No. 1 ranking to change in 2017.
"I hope so," Vinny says of possibly moving past Blanda in 2017.
"For me, I plan on playing a couple of more years if I can. I assume we are going to win a lot of games the next year and the year after. I would like to think that I can get to 210, at least, if not more."
Vinny's 221 total wins (regular season and postseason combined) are the most in NFL history.
Along with the regular season wins record, Vinny also has a chance to catch Morten Anderson for the NFL's career field goals mark and the most points scored in league history.
-Vinny will probably need two seasons to get the field goals mark (Andersen-565, Vinatieri-530) and the points scored record (Andersen-2,544, Vinatieri-2,378).
The 44-year-old Vinny enters a contract year in 2017 knowing he wants to keep on playing as he climbs into his mid-to-late 40s.
Earlier this year, former Colt Marlin Jackson said that he was most impressed by what Vinatieri was still doing 10 seasons after the two helped Indianapolis to their first Super Bowl title.
"He's still playing at such a high level," Jackson said of Vinatieri. "He may be kicking right now the best he is. I don't know if any would have expected that we fast forward 10 years and he's still the best kicker in the National Football League."
