INDIANAPOLIS – The Colts were one of the most active teams in the 2013 free agency period.
While some of the "bigger" moves came on the defensive side of the ball, the Colts made some noise on offense as well.
Colts.com takes a look back on some of those 2013 additions and how they impacted the Colts last season.
Guard Donald Thomas (Patriots)
* *-2013 Stats: 2 games played (2 starts). Was placed on injured reserve after injuring his quad in Week 2 of the season.
-Outlook: Thomas is log jammed with the other handful of offensive starters that the Colts placed on injured reserve during the 2013 season. He played just 72 snaps at the left guard position last year. Thomas came to the Colts after starting 7 games for New England in 2012. By all accounts, Thomas was one of the more underrated interior linemen in the 2013 free agent class. He's a key cog to the Colts up front and considering all the uncertainty in the interior of the line, a healthy Thomas is vital for 2014.Tackle Gosder Cherilus (Lions)
-2013 Stats: 16 games played (16 starts).
-Outlook: Cherilus lived up to the billing as a stalwart at right tackle. Last offseason, the Colts were looking for a consistent right tackle and the quiet Cherilus certainly fits that mold. The duo of Cherilus and Anthony Castonzo are the tackles of the future for the Colts.Quarterback Matt Hasselbeck (Titans)
* *-2013 Stats: 3 games played (0 starts).
-Outlook: Hasselbeck wasn't brought in to have significant on-the-field contributions. Instead, he helped Andrew Luck's growth with situational football and other tidbits Hasselbeck has acquired through his 16 NFL seasons. Having a veteran backup has served Luck well and if need be, Hasselbeck's resume (152 career starts) proves he's more than capable of getting the job done.
Wide Receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey (Raiders)
-2013 Stats: 16 games played (11 starts). 29 catches for 309 yards and 1 touchdown.
-Outlook: From an individual standpoint, DHB's 2013 campaign did not go according to plan. He struggled with drops at the receiver position but credit to him for finding a role on special teams late in the season. DHB said when he arrived to Indianapolis that he came here looking to experience the playoffs and he accomplished that in his fifth NFL season.Punter Pat McAfee (Colts)
-2013 Stats: 76 punts for 3,499 yards (46.0 average). 7 touchbacks.
-Outlook: The Colts used the franchise tag on McAfee last year and he returned the favor by setting a club record with 27 punts downed inside the 20-yard line. The biggest question for McAfee now comes on how the market recognizes his ability to kickoff and punt. Throw in a desire to kick field goals and McAfee could be a hot commodity in the coming weeks, if the Colts choose to not re-sign the five-year pro.Running Back Ahmad Bradshaw (Giants)
-2013 Stats: 3 games played (2 starts). 41 carries for 186 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
-Outlook: Bradshaw was the final offensive signee prior to the 2013 training camp. His performance in the fourth quarter of a Week Three 27-7 road victory over the 49ers was the aggressive running nature that Chuck Pagano has been preaching since taking over. Unfortunately, a neck injury sent Bradshaw to injured reserve and now the question becomes who is the Colts third running back behind Trent Richardson and Vick Ballard?
