**Colts Help Provide Thanksgiving Meals to 1,000 Families
**
INDIANAPOLIS – The doors to Martin University
in Indianapolis, Ind. were wide open on Tuesday as more than 1,000
families from Indianapolis' Near Eastside lined up to receive
nourishment for their minds and their stomachs. As a part of their
Hoosiers Helping Hoosier initiative, the Colts, WISH-TV and
MyINDY-TV partnered with Martin University, Meijer and Gleaners
Food Bank to provide a free job and education fair, as well as
Thanksgiving meals to families who are experiencing difficult times
this holiday season.
As families entered Martin University they were welcomed by students and faculty members, and had the opportunity to visit a variety of vendor booths that provided educational information, volunteer opportunities, job placement assistance and much more. Free childcare was also provided to parents while they were attending the job and education fair.
After participating in the job fair, each family was able to load Meijer grocery bags with all of the items needed for a Thanksgiving feast including stuffing, green beans, corn, macaroni and cheese, and soup. In addition, the families received a $15 Meijer gift card to purchase a turkey, ham or other perishable items. The food was provided through the Hoosiers Helping Hoosiers Food Drive that took place at all Indianapolis Fire Stations and local churches, as well as donations from Gleaners Food Bank.
Throughout the day, Colts staff members and players were on hand to help distribute food and provide a variety of activities for the families in attendance, including the Colts In Motion traveling museum, photographs with the Colts Super Bowl trophy, face painting and free posters.
