INDIANAPOLIS – The Bjoern Werner era has come to a close in Indianapolis.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Colts waived Werner.
In Werner's three seasons with the Colts, the team's 2013 first-round pick amassed 6.5 sacks.
The 2015 role for Werner was relegated mostly to special teams with him playing just 13.4 percent of the defensive snaps.
Per Over The Cap, the move to part ways with Werner saves the Colts nearly 1.5 million.
The Colts have stressed this offseason the need to find pass rushers.
Getting younger at the position goes hand-in-hand with that priority.
Returning edge rushers Robert Mathis (35), Trent Cole (34) and Erik Walden (31) will all be north of 30 years old this season.
Those are the only three outside linebackers with NFL experience on the Colts' roster right now.
