INDIANAPOLIS*– *Just two days away from Thanksgiving, the Indianapolis Colts helped distribute over 2,000 Thanksgiving meals to pre-selected Indianapolis families in need. On Tuesday, November 25, Colts players DT T.Y. McGill, CB Tevin Mitchel, LS Matt Overton, RB Josh Robinson and ILB Junior Sylvestre, along with Colts Cheerleaders and mascot Blue, joined up with over 100 volunteers to prepare and distribute the Thanksgiving meals.
"I always give back," said rookie RB Josh Robinson. "That's what I believe in, to always give back. I've been there once, so it's always a good place in my heart."
At the event, each family received a turkey, pumpkin pie, 5 lb. bag of potatoes, corn, green beans, stuffing, cranberry sauce and gravy. The bags of food were distributed to families who were pre-selected through local community centers, churches and schools. In addition, 10 local churches were selected to each receive 50 meals for the elderly and in-need families who were not able to attend the event.
Despite the cold November weather, smiles circulated amongst volunteers and families receiving meals. Hugs, laughs and plenty of "Happy Thanksgiving" greetings served as a great reminder of what the holidays are all about.
"Everybody loves this time of the year, the holidays," said rookie ILB Junior Sylvestre. "It's great to give back to the community and families."
"US Foods is honored to work with the Colts and our suppliers to serve families in need so they may sit around a table and celebrate Thanksgiving as a family" said Kurt Cummings, Division President, US Foods.
