INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Colts today claimed the following players off waivers: S-Sergio Brown, OT-Mike Person and NT-Martin Tevaseu. The Colts waived S-Jermale Hines, CB-D.J. Johnson and OT-Ty Nsekhe. The Colts also signed the following players to the practice squad: DT-Chigbo Anunoby, OLB-Jerry Brown, G-Hayworth Hicks, TE-Kyle Miller, WR-Kashif Moore and S-Latarrius Thomas.
Sergio Brown, 6-2, 210 pounds, originally signed with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent on April 29, 2010. He was released by the Patriots on September 4, 2010 and signed to their practice squad two days later. On October 23, 2010, he was elevated to the 53-man active roster from the practice squad. For his career, Brown has appeared in 26 games (three starts) and has totaled 34 tackles (25 solo) and one interception. Last season, he made 15 appearances (three starts) and contributed 26 tackles (18 solo) and one interception.
Brown saw action in 44 games (18 starts) at Notre Dame and finished his career with 89 total tackles. As a senior in 2009, he started 12 games and finished with 50 tackles and a sack. As a junior, he started in six-of-13 games and finished with 28 tackles and a sack. As a freshman and sophomore, he played on special teams and was a reserve in the secondary.
Mike Person, 6-4, 299 pounds, was originally selected in the seventh round (239th overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. Last year, he was inactive for all 16 regular season games and both postseason contests.
Person started all 42 games at Montana State and earned first-team All-Big Sky Conference honors in 2010. That year, the Bobcats won the Big Sky Conference Championship and led the conference in scoring offense, total offense, passing offense and first downs. In 2009, he started all 11 games at right tackle and earned honorable mention all-conference honors, while helping the team lead the conference in rushing yards and fewest sacks allowed. Person was named the team's Most Inspirational Player in the Spring of 2008.
Martin Tevaseu, 6-2, 325 pounds, originally signed with the Cleveland Browns as an undrafted free agent on May 15, 2010. He was released from the Browns on June 15 before signing with the New York Jets on July 20. He was released from the Jets on September 4 and added to the practice squad three days later. On January 22, 2011, Tevaseu was elevated to the active roster. He was released on September 4 and signed to the practice squad a day later. On October 12, he was elevated to the 53-man active roster. Six days later, he was released and added to the practice squad on the same day. Tevaseu was then elevated to the active roster on October 22. Last season, he saw action in five games and totaled three tackles.
Tevaseu was a two-year starter at UNLV and posted 48 tackles and two sacks in his career. As a senior, he was named the Defensive Most Valuable Player and team captain. Prior to UNLV, he attended Santa Rosa (Calif.) Junior College and earned first-team all-league honors his freshman year after collecting 40 tackles, five sacks and three passes defensed.
Jermale Hines was originally claimed off waivers by the Colts on September 29, 2011. He saw action in five games, contributing with two special teams tackles last season.
D.J. Johnson was acquired by the Colts in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for defensive tackle Ollie Ogbu on July 22, 2012.
Ty Nsekhe was originally signed by the Colts as a free agent on August 1, 2012.
Chigbo Anunoby and Hayworth Hicks were signed as undrafted free agents on April 30, 2012.
Jerry Brown originally signed with the Colts as a free agent on May 23, 2012.
Kyle Miller signed with the Colts as a free agent on April 3, 2012.
Kashif Moore was claimed off waivers by the Colts on August 28, 2012.
Latarrius Thomas was originally signed by the Colts as an undrafted free agent on May 3, 2012.
By claiming three players and waiving three players, the Colts remain at the league-mandated 53-man active roster.
