INDIANAPOLIS – On Monday, November 18, 2013, the Indianapolis Colts provided a holiday shopping experience for 11 mothers from Sheltering Wings, an organization that provides emergency housing and serves victims of domestic violence, at Meijer located on Southport Road. In preparation for Thanksgiving, the women were encouraged to purchase items for the holiday and household needs while their children joined Colts players and Blue making holiday crafts.

To begin the evening, the women and their families met at Meijer for a light meal.  Colts OLB Cam Johnson, OLB Erik Walden and Blue joined the group briefly before they separated to commence shopping. Mothers attending were surprised with a $300 gift card to go towards their holiday shopping needs, courtesy of Meijer.  The children participated in activities with the players to make crafts and edible holiday treats while watching a movie.

After shopping, Johnson and Walden stayed to sign autographs and take pictures with their new friends. Each family was presented with goodie bags before departing, courtesy of the Colts.

This is the sixth year the Colts and Meijer have teamed up for this holiday shopping event. This event is part of the Colts "Community Tuesday" program and was created to give families in need the opportunity to enjoy a special holiday experience and purchase items they could not otherwise afford. Meijer has partnered with the Colts to support several outreach projects this year, including the SACKing Hunger Food Drive, Horseshoe Helpings *and Shop with a Colt *events.
