INDIANAPOLIS – Can the Colts put a line through the cornerback need on their offseason checklist?

They certainly made a serious indention into addressing the void opposite Vontae Davis on Wednesday night by agreeing to terms with cornerback Patrick Robinson.

Robinson, 28, comes to Indianapolis after six NFL seasons (74 games, 43 career starts).

"We've been interested in Patrick since early in free agency and we're glad it finally came together," Colts GM Ryan Grigson said in a team release.

"We have some strong ties on our coaching staff with him so that familiarity is always a plus. He is a versatile, experienced and steady corner that gives us immediate help opposite Vontae. He was a fit on a number of levels in regards to overall skill, but also adds some strong intangibles. We're happy with this addition to our team."

After two weeks of free agency and visits to the Rams and Cowboys, Robinson is now calling Indianapolis his third NFL home.

Previously, Robinson played in New Orleans (2010 first-round pick of the Saints) and most recently with the Chargers last season.

San Diego is where the Colts should have a pretty accurate scouting report on Robinson.

New Colts defensive backs coach Greg Williams was an assistant secondary coach for the Chargers.

With the Chargers, Williams watched Robinson eliminate big plays.

Robinson allowed 8.9 yards per catch last season, the best mark among all NFL cornerbacks targeted at least 40 times in 2015 (per Pro Football Focus).

That stat had to be quite attractive to Chuck Pagano, who has said on more than one occasion that a goal in 2016 is to cut down on big plays allowed.

At this past week's Annual Meetings, Pagano also said the Colts needed to find a No. 2 cornerback in the offseason.

Robinson looks to now be that guy.

The Colts' cornerbacks currently on the roster are as followed: Davis, Robinson, Darius Butler, Jalil Brown, D'Joun Smith, Tay Glover-Wright, Tevin Mitchel and Josh Mitchell.
