Here are some of the major plays as they happened each quarter:
FIRST QUARTER
15:00:The Colts won the opening coin toss, and elected to defer to the second half. Rigoberto Sanchez's opening kickoff went through the back of the end zone for a touchback, and we're under way.
12:43:The Indianapolis defense gives up some chunk plays on its opening drive, but is able to hold the fort on its own side of the field. Greg Zuerlein connects on a 50-yard field goal, as the Rams take an early 3-0 lead. Included on that drive for Los Angeles were passes of 13 (Sammy Watkins) and 21 (Robert Woods) yards.
11:10:Scott Tolzien's first pass of the year is picked off by Trumaine Johnson, who returns it 39 yards for a touchdown. 10-0 Rams lead. The pass on third down was intended for T.Y. Hilton, but Johnson easily plucked it out of the air and sprinted down the right sideline for the defensive score.
6:21:Adam Vinatieri's 20-yard field goal is good, cutting the Rams' lead to 10-3. Indianapolis appeared to get it in the end zone three plays earlier, when rookie running back Marlon Mack, in on his first-career play in the NFL, caught a Tolzien pass in the flat and took it 21 yards to the goal line. Though replays showed Mack might've got in the end zone, the Colts elected not to challenge, and were stuffed from there on two runs, and then their pass on third down fell to the turf. Tolzien did have some nice plays on the drive, finding tight end Jack Doyle twice for completions of 21 and 20 yards, and Frank Gore had a nice eight-yard run on the drive, too.
0:36: Hilton, on his first reception, is stripped as he went down to the ground, and the ball is recovered by the Rams' defense. It's the second turnover of the quarter for the Colts.
0:00:At the end of the first quarter, the Rams lead the Colts, 10-3.
**SECOND QUARTER
9:44: **Todd Gurley punches it in from five yards out, extending the Rams' lead to 17-3. The play capped a five-play, 69-yard drive that took just 2:09 off the clock for Los Angeles, which got a couple big chunk plays again, this time on a 24-yard pass to Cooper Kupp, and then on 39-yard completion to tight end Gerald Everett, which got to the Indianapolis 5.
5:20:Quarterback Jared Goff finds Kupp wide open in the end zone for a 18-yard touchdown, and now the Rams lead 24-3. Six-play, 58-yard drive for Los Angeles there, which is finding ways to quickly get down the field.
INJURY UPDATE:Inside linebacker Anthony Walker has a hamstring injury and is out for the remainder of the game.
3:08:Colts elect to go for it on 4th and 7 from the Rams' 40-yard line. Tolzien's pass to Doyle is incomplete, however. Turnover on downs. Tolzien was able to hit Hilton for a 32-yard pickup on the first play of the drive, but a sack for a loss of seven yards on the ensuing play took a large chunk out of that big play.
0:17:Zuerlein's attempt from 35 yards out splits the uprights, extending the Rams' lead to 27-3.
0:00:At halftime, the Rams lead the Colts, 27-3.
**THIRD QUARTER
**12:03: Vinatieri's 38-yard field goal attempt hits off the left upright, and the Colts are unable to cash in after getting a gift from the Rams. Tavon Austin had muffed a Sanchez punt earlier in the drive, which was recovered by inside linebacker Jeremiah George at the Los Angeles 24. Indianapolis would only get four yards from that point, however.
7:23:Rams get it to 30-3 after another Zuerlein field goal, this time from 44 yards out.
7:15:Just eight seconds later, Los Angeles finds the end zone once again. Tolzien's pass intended for Hilton is picked off by Lamarcus Joyner, who returns it to the house for the touchdown. Rams now lead 37-3.
0:00:At the end of the third quarter, the Rams leads the Colts, 37-3.
**FOURTH QUARTER
11:32: **Jacoby Brissett, acquired eight days ago in a trade with the New England Patriots, takes the field at quarterback for the Colts, and strikes gold immediately. His bomb down the left sideline to Donte Moncrief — who makes a nice effort to go up and get the ball and come down with it in his possession — is good for 50 yards. Then, Mack punches it in from three yards out for his first-career NFL score. Vinatieri missed the extra point, though, and the Colts now trail, 37-9.
9:18:Mack is ripped by Cory Littleton, and the ball goes flying into the end zone on the Colts' side of the field. Brissett falls on it for a safety. 39-9 Rams lead.
4:28:Malcolm Brown with a tough three-yard touchdown run, and the Rams pad their lead, 46-9. Eight-play, 57-yard drive for Los Angeles.
0:00:The Colts fall to 0-1 on the season witha 46-9 loss to the Rams. Next up: the Arizona Cardinals next Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium.
