INDIANAPOLIS – On Thursday, September 3, 2015, the Indianapolis Colts teamed up with Dayspring Center Family Emergency Shelter to host a cash collection prior to the Colts vs. Bengals preseason game. In the two hours prior to kickoff, Dayspring Center volunteers were able to collect around $1,500 in cash donations to benefit local homeless families with children. Bearing the hot and humid weather, volunteers were extremely excited and energetic to be a part of the fundraising efforts.
Dayspring Center provides emergency shelter, clothing and three nourishing meals-a-day for homeless families with children in central Indiana. Families turn to Dayspring Center as a last resort; some to escape domestic abuse, others have experienced financial collapse, medical problems or crises that caused them to lose their home.
On any given night, more than 3,700 children are homeless in Indianapolis. All proceeds from Sunday's collection will go to help Dayspring Center serve these children and their families by providing food, shelter and support services for them. The Colts Gameday Collections program will continue to run throughout the 2015 season with a different charitable collection held prior to each home game. Upcoming collections include Teachers' Treasures School Supply Drive and Indy Backpack Attack. For more information about the Colts Gameday Collections program, visit www.colts.com/collections.
