INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Colts are proud to announce OlaJowon Turentine, a foster parent to many in Indianapolis, as a 2016 honoree of the Colts Anthem Angels program, presented by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Turentine will be recognized at the Colts home game this Sunday, January 1, 2017.
During the past eight years OlaJowon Turentine has served as a foster parent in the Indianapolis community. During this time, he has taken care of seventeen children ranging from ages eighteen months to eighteen years.
Turentine became a foster parent wanting to be a positive influence for those in the foster care system. While he was never a foster child, members of his family were, sparking the desire to provide a safe home and serve as a mentor originated from. He invests time into studying youth development, mental health and best practices for educating and parenting youth with adverse childhood experiences.
His first case as a foster parent was with a group of siblings ages two, three and five. The children confirmed his belief that he could be positive influence to those in need. A few years later the Department of Children Services reached out to Turentine to see if he would like to adopt two of the three siblings, and he said yes – knowing he would provide a happy, loving and stable home for these children.
Many of the kids who have aged out of his care continue to reach out and lean on Turentine for support, advice and encouragement. Turentine's nominator exclaimed, "He is a true example to others of how an ordinary person can make an extraordinary impact in the lives of our youth and our community." Congratulations to our Anthem Angel, OlaJowon Turentine!
Turentine will receive four (4) VIP Club Seat Tickets to the Colts game, a feature story with his photo in the Colts gameday magazine (the Scout) and on www.colts.com, as well as on-field recognition at the game.
