Shane Steichen: Anthony Richardson expected to start for Colts vs. Dolphins in Week 7, barring any setbacks

Richardson (oblique) was inactive for the Colts' last two games.

Anthony Richardson is expected to return behind center for the Colts on Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, head coach Shane Steichen said Monday.

"Unless there's a setback, I think he'll be ready to go," Steichen said.

Richardson missed the Colts' last two games with an oblique injury he sustained in Week 4 against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Colts designated Richardson as their emergency third quarterback for their Week 6 win over the Tennessee Titans, but ultimately made the decision to keep him on the sidelines.

"(We) wanted to make sure he's 100 percent," Steichen said. "That's what really went into the decision. He's really close – really close, which is why we had him as our third emergency quarterback. But he should be looking really good this week."

Richardson was listed as questionable coming into Week 6, with Steichen saying he'd be a game time decision. The second-year quarterback was a limited participant in practices Wednesday and Friday last week, and was a full participant on Thursday. The Colts, though, have taken a big-picture view of Richardson's season over the last few weeks, opting to make sure their QB1 would be as healthy as possible when he returned from his injury.

"It's a long season and we're six games into this thing, and we want to have him for the long haul," Steichen said.
