Anderson - The day started with sunshine and wind and ended with thunderstorms and tornado sirens, but that did not stop anyone from enjoying the first ever Colts Fan Fest in Anderson on Friday night. The Colts Fan Fest was made extra special with the return of Jon McLaughlin to his hometown of Anderson.
McLaughlin who is not only a Colts fan, but the performer of the Oscar nominated song "So Close" from the Disney movie Enchanted, left Anderson two years ago only to be welcomed home by his friends, family, and about 6,000 other fans including Mayor Kris Ockomon.
Mayor Ockomon stated, "It's exciting to be able to bring a local talent back to perform at the first ever Fan Fest. We are all very proud of him."
This was McLaughlin's first time playing in downtown Anderson. "It feels great to come back to Anderson and be able to play a show like this" McLaughlin said.
McLaughlin started playing earlier than scheduled to be sure he could get his full set in before the storm eventually passed through Anderson.
Prior to the concert, fans had the chance to tour the Colts In Motion traveling museum and meet several Colts cheerleaders and Colts players Matt Giordano and Tyjuan Hagler.
Hagler said, "It is a blessing to come out and be able to see all the fans. It is great to be able to show the fans that we care about them as much as they care about us."
At the remaining Fan Fests, the Colts will be working with the United Way and the American Red Cross accepting donations to benefit the flood victims. Fans are encouraged to bring physical and monetary items to donate to the collection area at each of the remaining Fan Fests. If you are unable to attend a Colts Fan Fest, and would still like to assist flood victims, please visit www.redcross-indy.org/donate.
You can join your fellow Colts fans, and follow the Colts on the next Fan Fest tour stop in Terre Haute on Tuesday, June 10, from 5:00 - 8:30 PM at Fairbanks Park.
