Hamilton enters his first season with the Colts as the team's assistant defensive backs coach. He comes to Indianapolis with 13 years of coaching experience, including one in the NFL.
In 2023, Hamilton served as a defensive quality control coach with the Tennessee Titans. He assisted a Titans defense that led the NFL in opponent red zone touchdown scoring percentage (37.7) and opponent goal-to-go touchdown percentage (42.9), and ranked tied for third in offensive touchdowns allowed (30).
Additionally, Hamilton served as the defensive backs coach for the American Team at the 2024 Senior Bowl.
Hamilton spent four years (2018-21) at his alma mater, Virginia Tech, in a variety of roles that included defensive coordinator/safeties coach (2020-21), safeties coach (2019) and director of player development-defense (2018).
Under Hamilton's direction in 2021, Virginia Tech ranked third in the nation in fewest passing yards allowed (2,194). Cornerback Jermaine Waller earned Second Team All-ACC honors while safety Nasir Peoples, defensive back Chamarri Conner, linebacker Dex Hollifield and defensive lineman Jordan Williams earned All-ACC honorable mention accolades.
In his first season as the defensive coordinator for Virginia Tech, his defense ranked third in the ACC with 12 interceptions, and safety Devine Deablo earned First Team All-ACC honors after leading the team with four interceptions. Hamilton was instrumental in Deablo and cornerback Caleb Farley's development, mentoring them in the secondary after they switched to the defensive side of the ball following prep careers as quarterbacks. Farley was selected in the first round (22nd overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft by Tennessee and Deablo was selected in the third round (80th overall) of the 2021 NFL Draft by the Las Vegas Raiders.
Prior to Virginia Tech, he spent four seasons (2014-17) in various roles at Virginia Military Institute. In 2017, Hamilton served as the team's inside linebackers/co-special teams coach. He spent two seasons (2015-16) as VMI's outside linebackers/co-special teams coach. Hamilton began his tenure at VMI as the outside linebackers coach in 2014.
He began his coaching career at Virginia-Wise, serving as the defensive coordinator for three seasons (2011-13) after working as a strength and conditioning coach in 2010. During the 2012 season, Virginia Wise held five opponents to 24 points or fewer.
As a player, Hamilton was selected in the seventh round (222nd overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. He played in 12 career games with the Browns and Washington Commanders and totaled nine tackles (seven solo) and seven special teams stops.
Hamilton was a four-year letterman at Virginia Tech (2002-05) and played running back, wide receiver and defensive back. As a senior, he tallied 35 tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, and three interceptions and helped lead the team to their second consecutive ACC Championship Game. Hamilton majored in consumer studies at Virginia Tech.
He attended Clintwood High School and also lettered in basketball and track. Hamilton won state titles in the 110-meter and 300-meter hurdles.
Hamilton is married to his wife, Brittany, and they have two sons, Kam and Ace, and one daughter, Channing.
