Hastings is in his fourth season with the Colts and his first as the team's sr. assistant special teams coach. He served as assistant special teams coach the last three years (2021-23). Hastings has eight years of coaching experience as well as one season in player personnel.
In Week 13 of the 2023 season at Tennessee, safety Nick Cross blocked a punt that was recovered by linebacker Grant Stuard and returned for a touchdown. The Colts were one of only four teams to register a blocked punt in 2023 and were the only team to return one for a touchdown.
The Colts ranked eighth in Rick Gosselin's annual report after leading the NFL in kickoff return average (27.8) in 2022. The unit also finished fifth in the NFL in average starting field position after a kickoff (24.6) and seventh in opponent punt return average (7.4). Indianapolis registered two blocked kicks (one field goal and one extra point) and one blocked punt (returned for a touchdown).
In 2021, Hastings assisted with a special teams unit that was named the second-best in the NFL in Rick Gosselin's annual report. The Colts registered two blocked punts on the season and returned both for touchdowns.
Prior to Indianapolis, Hastings served as a defensive analyst for one season (2020) at the University of Mississippi.
He served as the wide receivers coach/pass game coordinator at Indiana State in 2019 after being promoted from wide receivers coach following the 2018 season.
Hastings served in multiple roles at Michigan from 2015-17, including wide receivers coach and offensive assistant (2017) and defensive graduate assistant working with the defensive line (2015-16).
Hastings spent the 2014 season as a pro personnel assistant with the Philadelphia Eagles.
As a player, Hastings spent three seasons in the NFL with the Miami Dolphins (2013) and San Francisco 49ers (2011-13). He also played for the Sacramento Mountain Lions of the United Football League in 2012.
Collegiately, Hastings appeared in 34 games at Washburn University (2005-2010) and accumulated 119 receptions for 2,033 yards and 17 touchdowns. In 2010, he set the single-season school record for most receptions (87) and ranked second for the most receiving touchdowns (15). Hastings was originally a walk-on at Washburn and finished his career ranked ninth in receptions, sixth in receiving yards and seventh in receiving touchdowns in school history. He was inducted into the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2021.
Hastings earned a bachelor's degree in marketing and finance at Washburn before earning his master's degree in sports administration at Michigan.
Hastings is a native of Wichita, Kan. He is married to his wife, Jenna, and the couple has two daughters, Addison and Collins.
