June is in his third season with the Colts as the team's assistant linebackers coach. He has 13 years of coaching experience.
Indianapolis ranked fifth in the NFL in tackles for loss (94.0) and sacks (51.0), while finishing tied for fifth in forced fumbles (17.0) in 2023. The Colts also ranked fourth in opponent negative play yards (-512). The team recorded 14 consecutive games with a takeaway to open the season, which was the longest streak in the NFL in 2023.
June mentored linebackers Zaire Franklin and E.J. Speed to careers seasons, with Franklin finishing the year ranking second in tackles and solo tackles in the NFL. Franklin surpassed his own franchise single-season record of tackles (166) from 2022, posting 179 during the 2023 campaign. Speed posted single-season career highs in tackles (100), solo tackles (76), tackles for loss (12.0) and forced fumbles (three). His 12.0 tackles for loss were also a team high.
Following the season, June served as the linebackers coach for the American Team at the 2024 Senior Bowl.
In 2022, Indianapolis finished the season in the top 10 in the league in sacks (44 – tied-10th), tackles for loss (91 – fifth), forced fumbles (13 – tied-eighth), fumble recoveries (11 – tied-fourth), opponent negative plays (31 – fifth), third down percentage (37.95 – 10th) and opponent three-and-out percentage (22.3 – eighth). The unit's 44 sacks were the most in franchise history since 2005 (46).
June assisted with Franklin and Bobby Okereke and helped them register career years. Franklin finished with 166 tackles (102 solo), 12.0 tackles for loss, 3.0 sacks, six passes defensed and three forced fumbles. Okereke tallied 149 tackles (97 solo), 6.0 tackles for loss, five passes defensed, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Franklin set the single-season franchise tackle record and Okereke compiled a single-season career high in tackles. The duo ranked in the top 10 in the NFL in total tackles (Franklin – fourth; Okereke – 10th) and solo tackles (Franklin – fifth; Okereke – ninth). Franklin had 10 games with 10+ tackles, which tied for the most in the league.
Prior to his return to Indianapolis, June served as run game coordinator/outside linebackers coach at Bowling Green in 2021. He helped the Falcons transition to a 3-4 scheme and guided defensive lineman Blaine Spires to single-season career highs in tackles (35), solo tackles (18), tackles for loss (5.0) and sacks (1.5).
June was the outside linebackers coach at the University of Massachusetts for one season (2020) that was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
From 2016-19, he worked at Howard in numerous roles, including recruiting coordinator/linebackers coach (2019), recruiting coordinator/safeties coach (2017-18) and running backs coach (2016). From 2017-18, the Bison held opponents to only 218.7 passing yards per game.
June served as head coach at Charles Herbert Flowers (Md.) High School in 2015 and at his alma mater, Anacostia (Washington, DC) High School, from 2012-14. He began his coaching career as the defensive coordinator at Anacostia in 2011.
Originally selected by Indianapolis in the sixth round (198th overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft, June played in 89 career games (73 starts) in his time with the Chicago Bears (2009), Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2007-08) and Colts (2003-06) and compiled 490 tackles (343 solo), 3.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, 26 passes defensed, 12 interceptions (two returned for touchdowns), three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and 14 special teams stops. He also appeared in eight postseason contests (seven starts) and recorded 51 tackles (23 solo), two passes defensed and one interception. June was a member of Indianapolis' Super Bowl XLI championship team. In 2005, June was selected Associated Press Second Team All-Pro and was named to the Pro Bowl after he started all 13 games he appeared in and registered 102 tackles (67 solo), seven passes defensed and five interceptions (two returned for touchdowns).
Collegiately, June appeared in 36 career games (26 starts) as a safety at Michigan (1998-2002) and tallied 138 tackles (102 solo), 10.0 tackles for loss, 6.0 sacks, eight passes defensed, three interceptions, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. He majored in general studies during his time at Michigan.
June attended Anacostia (Washington, DC) High School and was a three-year starter at defensive back. He earned Parade All-American honors and Second Team USA Today All-America recognition. June was named All-MET Defensive Player of the Year and Gatorade Player of the Year. He helped lead Anacostia to the DCIAA Football Championship in each of his last three seasons and won the championship as a sophomore. A standout basketball player, June earned All-League recognition as a senior and was a member of three DCIAA Basketball Championship winning teams. He also participated in track and field and was the DCIAA City Champion in the triple jump as a junior. June was the class salutatorian, class president and a member of the National Honor Society. He was inducted into the Anacostia Hall of Fame in 2021.
He and his wife, Nicole, have a son, Cato Jr.
