Wednesday's Jacksonville Teleconference

QB-BYRON LEFTWICH (on how much of a surprise it is to be 3-0) 9/29/04 “It’s not a surprise to us. I think, if anything is a surprise, is how we’ve done it.

QB-BYRON LEFTWICH (on how much of a surprise it is to be 3-0) 9/29/04

"It's not a surprise to us. I think, if anything is a surprise, is how we've done it. I think we're only scoring 12 points a game, and it's very hard to do that. But with the type of defense we have, fortunately for us, we've been able to do that."

QB-BYRON LEFTWICH (on what's not working on offense…is it something simple?) 9/29/04

"It's something that, we're so close, we're so close. Some things haven't gone our way, and I just think we continue to put ourselves in tough situations because we've been playing with a lot of third and longs. It's tough to just make a living doing that week in and week out. I think we'll correct that."

QB-BYRON LEFTWICH (on if it's tough having to make plays in the 4th quarter to win) 9/29/04

"We have a good track record at that. I believe, if we have to do it, I believe we can do it, but you don't want to go through that every week. It's something you just don't want to do because at some point in time, that's going to come back and bite you. So, hopefully, we don't have to be in that situation to win the football game."

QB-BYRON LEFTWICH (on the Colts' defense and secondary in particular) 9/29/04

"You look at those guys and you just watch film. You hear a lot of times on TV saying how they don't have a defense, but when you look on film, those guys are playing good football. They wreak havoc. They have a lot of players who know what they are doing. They are well-coached. I think it's a misperception that they don't have a good defense."

QB-BYRON LEFTWICH (on the Colts' secondary being beat deep on occasion) 9/29/04

"I've never seen a corner that wasn't beat. Everybody, at some point, is going to get beat, unless it was Deion (Sanders) in his prime. When you look at that, you can't say, 'Hey, this guy got beat. This guy got beat on this, this guy got beat on that.' I think you have to look at it as a whole and the way they are playing. Their defense gives them opportunities to win football games."

QB-BYRON LEFTWICH (on if the Jaguars talk about the Super Bowl since it hosted in Jacksonville this season) 9/29/04

"That's so premature. We're only three games into this thing. And the last thing on our mind is the Super Bowl. You look at any team, and their main goal is to find a way to win the Super Bowl. Right now, we're taking it one week at a time, but we'll see what happens."

HEAD COACH JACK DEL RIO (on how much of a surprise it is to be 3-0) 9/29/04

"We're pleased to be off to a good start and recognize that it's a long season, and we have a lot of work ahead of us."

HEAD COACH JACK DEL RIO (on if Jaguars fans talk about possibly being the first team to host a Super Bowl) 9/29/04

"The fans are normal, typical fans, in that they get high and low. We can't really get caught up in that. The task remains for us, focusing week to week. And this week it's a huge game against a very talented Colts team."

HEAD COACH JACK DEL RIO (on what he sees when he looks at the Colts) 9/29/04

"They are a good football team. Peyton Manning is playing lights out. He has a host of talent at every position, and they're just executing and playing good football."

HEAD COACH JACK DEL RIO (on the Jaguars offense) 9/29/04

"I think our guys are working hard. I think it's a young team. I think we'll get better as the season progresses."

HEAD COACH JACK DEL RIO (on if he maintained an even keel with his players all the way through last season) 9/29/04

"There's no question I was able to be steady with them. I think they responded well to that as the year went on. I take my lead from Tony Dungy. I think that's one of the things I admire the most about Tony, is his ability to be steady and dependable and kind of a rock we can all lean on. It's one of his strengths, and it's certainly something that I think is important."

HEAD COACH JACK DEL RIO (on if this game is as simple as the No. 1 offense vs. the No. 32 offense in the league) 9/29/04

"I think statistical samples after three weeks of the season are a little misleading. Certainly (the Colts) are an explosive offense and will be somewhere at the top of the league when it's all said and done. I just believe that our group is going to have a better showing as the year goes on. So, I don't think that ranking is reflective of the type of group we have."

HEAD COACH JACK DEL RIO (on what he remembers of his playing days under Tony Dungy in Minnesota) 9/29/04

"I remember probably the best four years of my playing career coming under Coach Tony Dungy. I really admire who he is, what he stands for and his approach as a coach. I really respect him, and now that we're competing against one another, look forward to doing that this Sunday."
