Training Camp 7/31/03

DB-MIKE DOSS (on his first day at training camp) “It feels good to be out here with the team.

DB-MIKE DOSS (on his first day at training camp)

"It feels good to be out here with the team. The veterans and the secondary came up to me said, 'Congratulations and lets get to work.' I am just happy to be out here."

DB-MIKE DOSS (on arriving late to training camp and if he feels like he needs to catch up with the other players)

" I feel like I am right on time. I had a couple of things down last week at a routine rookie sports camp. I want to continue on the things I learned and build from there."

DB-MIKE DOSS (on his expectations for this season)

"I just want to come in, contribute and work hard. I want to enjoy the NFL and win some games."

DB-MIKE DOSS (on running Tony Dungy's defense)

"I think the defense is similar to the defense at Ohio State because we did a lot of things with our safeties and our secondary. I am looking forward to the opportunity to get out on the field and see what I can do on the next level."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on DB-Mike Doss' arrival today)

"It was good to get that done. He was anxious to get here. Now, he has a lot of work to catch up on. He missed some of the time, by no fault of his own, in summer school and a few days here. He will work hard and our coaches will work hard. We will get him ready to go."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on the defense and DB-Mike Doss)

"I think they are excited to get the family full. The guys welcome him here. He is excited and I think it is a good situation."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on DB-Mike Doss coming into training camp as a rookie)

"It is not like it was totally brand new and he does not know anybody and does not know the routine. He was here for the mini camp. He will fit right in. The big thing for him is not to press and make big plays early on. He needs to learn the defense, know what he is doing, learn the plays and the rest will take care of itself."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on the competition for the starting strong safety position)

"It is pretty much every man for himself. We want to make the defense better and we feel like Mike Doss will be a good player. But, we also feel the same way about the other guys. It will shake out during the pre-season."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on the veterans helping DB-Mike Doss)

"It is really what you do when you try and win a championship. There are places, I guess, where you are not trying to win, where you would be concerned about that. Our guys want to win and that has been our history. We welcome people with open arms and try to get them ready to go. Everyone is here to help us win. The more guys know, the more comfortable, the better a team is going to be, and that is how our players take it."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on the cohesiveness of the team)

"So far, we are making progress. I have a little higher expectations for this year and I am probably not as happy as I was at this time last year, even though we might be doing things a little bit better. I expect a lot out of this team and, hopefully, we will be on all four cylinders by the middle of next week."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on what he wants to accomplish at special teams practice)

"We feel like there are certain amount of things that we have to get accomplished, and we like to take certain afternoons and just work on special teams. When you emphasize certain things, it lets the players know that it is important and, frankly, that is an area that we have to work on."
