HEAD COACH-TONY DUNGY (on the plan if depth at the safety position runs short) Training Camp
"Yes, we actually worked Nick Hannah, a linebacker, at some safety work today to make sure he was up to speed on the things that we could do if we run short. That's what we would have to do, work some of our guys, corners. Von Hutchins has worked there some. So, we'll try to get Jammal Lord up to speed. That's the one area where we are a little short."
HEAD COACH-TONY DUNGY (on kicker, Adam Vinatieri) Training Camp
"Yes, with Adam, the first thing you notice is that he kicks a pure ball. Very seldom are his kicks offline. Even the ones he makes, they're not like they're just inside the posts. Every ball is very consistent and that's I guess what is the number one thing that's strikes me. Number two, he really likes football, so everything that we do, he's around, he's having fun, he's in it. I think the players have really gotten to appreciate him."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on what he would like to accomplish in the preseason game) Training Camp
"From the time that the first group is in there you would like to be able to have one 10-or-12 play drive and put up a touchdown or two six-or-seven play drives and two touchdowns. That would be our ideal goal. I have always said it's nice to get as many situations as possible. You'd love to be able to get a third-and-one if you could, and convert that or a third-and-five or six and convert those. You love to get some red zone work. We simulate these things in practice, and it would be nice to get them in a game. The main thing though is to try to get down there and score some points."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on his first impressions of Adam Vinatieri at training camp) Training Camp
"We are glad to have him as a teammate. He has been here the entire time in the off-season. He made it a real point to come in here early and get to know the players. He lifted with us. He ran with us. He participated in the off-season program which I think was good for him. It was good for him to get acclimated to the guys. During training camp, he wasn't introducing himself to guys because he already knew the team. He has made himself here at home with the team."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on bringing in Adam Vinatieri to replace Mike Vanderjagt) Training Camp
"When you lose a guy like Mike (Vanderjagt), there is really only one guy in my opinion that you could have brought in order to not take a tremendous drop-off. By bringing Adam in, we don't miss a beat. We hope Adam's success continues in the regular season. Hopefully we will give him a chance to make some of those big kicks in the postseason. He has proven that he has ice water in his veins in those situations. I think that we have to be careful not to use it as a crutch. Our goal is still to try to score touchdowns. We would love for Adam to stand on the sideline and just kickoff if we had our choice."
