San Diego Chargers Conference Call Quotes

HEAD COACH NORV TURNER (on how good it feels to get a playoff win) * *

"It's great to win any football game, and I said it after the game, there are some guys that have been here a long time, particularly L.T. (LaDainian Tomlinson), Jamal Williams, that are outstanding, outstanding football players.  I was with them here in 2001.  To accomplish all of the things they have accomplished, obviously they've been shooting for having some success in the playoffs for a long time, and to get that first one was big."

HEAD COACH NORV TURNER (on if getting a win puts them more at ease going into this weekend's game)

"I hope not.  I hope not.  I think with each step it's going to be harder and the team you're playing is going to be better.  We're playing the world champions, and our guys I think have a good sense of what they're in for.  So I hope we're not at ease.  I hope we're working hard on being focused."

HEAD COACH NORV TURNER (on if he sees the Colts being different in any way from the last time they played in November)

"I think we're both really different teams, I really do.  Obviously they had a lot of people hurt in the game, coming off a loss.  We know we're going to see Indianapolis at their best.  We're a lot better team than we were at the mid-season point.  We're playing with more confidence, and we've had some success.  We were kind of an up-and-down team when we were getting ready to play that game, so hopefully that helps us."

HEAD COACH NORV TURNER (on in what ways he thinks his team is most improved)

"I think playing consistently.  We've cut down on turnovers, we've continued to create turnovers throughout the period when we were up and down.  We were a physical team, we're still a physical team.  We're just playing with more consistency."

HEAD COACH NORV TURNER (on the key to leading the league in takeaways)

"We have a lot of playmakers.  The combination of guys that play the ball extremely well and then the ability to pressure the quarterback, and then in a number of the games we've been able to get leads where we've been able to dictate to the other team.  They start throwing the ball, kind of because they have to, then it's helped us create those kinds of turnovers."

HEAD COACH NORV TURNER (on if he looks back to the past couple of years where Pittsburgh and Indianapolis were No. 1 seeds, got defeated, and then came back to win it the next year)

"During the middle of the year, the fact that teams had struggled and then got on a role and had success, I think it helped us to stay focused and understand that it's a real long year.  I think probably, subconsciously, the fact that teams have gotten there from this position helps, but once you get into the game preparation and you get to the game, you know you're playing right now the best team in football, one of the two best teams in football.  It doesn't matter what seed you're coming in from, you know you better go play your best."
