INDIANAPOLIS –The NFL gave Robert Mathis one final tip of the cap to Robert Mathis on Wednesday morning.
Mathis was named the AFC's Defensive Player of the Week thanks to the strip/sack he had in his finale from the game of football.
The fourth-quarter strip/sack from Mathis, the 47th of his NFL career, stopped a Jaguars scoring drive and helped the Colts to a 24-20 comeback victory in Week 17.
It was one final highlight for one of the game’s most disruptive pass rushers.
- With the sack Mathis moved past former teammate Dwight Freeney (122.5) for the 17th most sacks in NFL history. Mathis finished his career as the franchise leader in sacks with 123.0.
- Mathis ended his career with an NFL record 47 sack-forced fumbles and sacked 62 different players, adding Jacksonville's Blake Bortles to that list over the weekend.
The honor for Mathis marks the fourth time a Colts player won a weekly award this season (Week 5-*[Adam Vinatieri, Week 9-[Jordan Todman, Week 14-Andrew Luck).
