Peyton Manning Quotes

QB-PEYTON MANNING (on if it is surprising that Tennessee hasn’t won a game yet) “I was saying earlier when talking to the Nashville media that I can’t remember what any of our records have been when playing the Titans or what their records have been through the years. It’s a healthy rivalry.

QB-PEYTON MANNING (on if it is surprising that Tennessee hasn't won a game yet)

"I was saying earlier when talking to the Nashville media that I can't remember what any of our records have been when playing the Titans or what their records have been through the years. It's a healthy rivalry. It's always been a close game for the most part. (We) have a lot of familiarity between the players. They have most of the same players back. It's no different this year. It's two good teams, two good AFC South teams, playing against each other. What our record is and what their record is, is really irrelevant, because we know it's going to be a close game and a tough game, especially playing down there."

QB-PEYTON MANNING (on if there is respect or dislike between the two teams)

"I'm sure there is a lot of inside battles amongst players, between some of the guys, on the field. We certainly have a lot of respect with the way they come to play every single Sunday, and the way (Head Coach Jeff) Fisher prepares them. They're always just very sound in what they do. You see a lot of things that are emphasized to us as players, you can tell are emphasized to them, as well. I think it's a healthy respect, although I think both teams really want to beat each other."

QB-PEYTON MANNING (on the possibility of some of Tennessee's defensive backs missing the game)

"I think you have to be careful (thinking it will be an advantage for you). You look at all of our injuries, maybe Seattle or some teams that have gone against us say, 'Hey, DB-Kelvin Hayden is out. LB-Gary Brackett is out. DE-Dwight Freeney might be out.' I think that was something that might happen in college. In the NFL, if there is somebody on their roster there has to be a reason. It's hard to make a team in the NFL. Whoever is in there, I know they will be ready to play. It's up to us just to execute. No matter who is over there, we still have to do our part. That's what it really comes down to."

QB-PEYTON MANNING (on if the Colts could possibly overlook Tennessee)

"It's not something that is very much of a concern, because we know how good of a team that they are. When you watch the films of the games, you certainly don't think about their record. You see a couple of balls that are tipped and are going the other team's way. That may be the result of the ballgame. They are an excellent football team, still, and it will be a challenge for us on Sunday."

QB-PEYTON MANNING (on if you can take the approach that if you can get Tennessee to 0-5 it will be tough on them the rest of the way)

"It's a big game, because of who we're playing and where we're playing, down there, but also because it is a division game. We've always understood the significance of division games. It's certainly games that you want to win. I'm not saying that you don't want to win the other ones as much, but there is special emphasis on these division games because of what they'll mean down the stretch."

QB-PEYTON MANNING (on Tennessee's defense)

"I can't really pinpoint. I always look at game-by-game, as opposed to a summary. I do know that they always play us tough. They have a good familiarity with us. I don't think there is a lot that we do that is going to surprise them. It's tough to move the ball against them through the years. You just have to be very solid what you do execution wise. That's really all what we're preparing for, try to be real sound, try to have some kind of balance if we can in the run game and the pass game. I think they'll play well on Sunday, and I really feel like their record is not really indicative of how good of a team that they are."

QB-PEYTON MANNING (on Tennessee Head Coach Jeff Fisher)

"He seems to know how to rally the troops if the things aren't going the way that you want. They've really had a tough start. I think they've had three out of four on the road, not many other teams have had to do that. I think the (New York) Giants had to do that, but it's not easy to start that way. Pittsburgh was a (close) game. The Jets game could easily have gone the other way, and Houston was a shootout. We know they'll be glad to be at home, their fans will be fired up, and we know it will be a tough place to play."

QB-PEYTON MANNING (on going back to Tennessee)

"I feel like with them being in the division and so much importance of the game for both teams, that's really what I concentrate on. It's a tough place to play. There are a lot of Titans fans in that stadium, and they make it tough on us to play there. That's really what it comes down to."

QB-PEYTON MANNING (on the young receivers playing on the road)

"With all of our young players it'll be a process. These guys will continue to learn something new each week. I know that's what it was like for me. As young players, you face different situations, you face a two-minute drill at home, you'll face a two-minute drill on the road. A 4th-and-1 on the road is sometimes different from one at home.

There is never a time when you're not learning as young players. This will be our first division game on the road, which in itself I think is a new experience. The best way for these guys to learn is to get in there and play and gain the experience. We know there will be some mistakes, but we just hope, if it happens, they learn from them, and we can make up for them somehow. All of our young players are working hard. They're very conscientious guys, and that's all you can really ask of them as young players."
