"The idea of this week is, we talked about it, just trying to get better, not really worrying about anything else besides that. We have the Bengals on Friday, but it's kind of a get-better week, and at the same time preparing for Cincinnati. I'm not sure how long I'm going to play in the game, but the time we're in there, we just want to be sharp and try to have some good momentum going into the opener."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on if Cincinnati Head Coach Marvin Lewis has improved the Bengals' defense) Training Camp
"Well, it seems like it. Certainly, last year, they made a great run at the playoffs, and the defense definitely made a lot of big plays. They are an aggressive defense, kind of an in-your-face type of defense that blitzes a lot. I'm sure that will be kind of their motto this year as well."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on what's bothered him about the offense most so far this preseason) Training Camp
"There's been some things that we've done well. I'm really encouraged by the way we're running the ball. That's really been a point of emphasis early on. There's been a couple of protection breakdowns that are kind of uncharacteristic, but those are things kind of good to get out in the open in the preseason…a couple of blitzes that you could see and work on and try to correct them. We've already corrected some of those. Hopefully, we can get all these tipped balls out of our system before the preseason. The things that are happening, it's almost a positive they are happening so you correct them and can realize you need to tighten the screws on. I like the way we're practicing. I like the way we're getting prepared to play. Like I said, just tighten up a few notches there, and I think we'll be in good shape."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on if he is excited about playing the regular season with the atmosphere at New England) Training Camp
"We're excited about opening day. Everybody is excited and looking forward to the games that count, but like I said, we want to finish up the preseason on a good note. Hopefully, we'll stay healthy. We got a little more beat up than what we'd liked to against Buffalo. That's the main thing, coming out of this game healthy and being ready to go for the opener."
