Lucas Oil Stadium Receives Near-Perfect Review by Stadium
Journey
Lucas Oil Stadium, the state-of-the-art home of the Indianapolis Colts, has again received high ratings from Stadium Journey. After being named the Best NFL Stadium of 2009, Lucas Oil Stadium in 2010 received the highest ratings Stadium Journey has awarded to any sports venue, according to Stadium Journey co-founder Paul Swaney.
Stadium Journey correspondents review every NFL stadium, with rankings based on the following categories: food and beverage, atmosphere, neighborhood, fans, access, return on investment and extras, a summary of the experience.
Lucas Oil Stadium scored 34 out of a possible 35 points, up from 32 of 35 in 2009. The venue earned a perfect score of five out of five in atmosphere, neighborhood, fans, access, return on investment and extras. It received four out of five stars in food and beverage.
"The amazing thing about Lucas Oil Stadium is that it manages to feel immense and intimate at the same time," wrote Swaney. "It is the second smallest NFL home field, next to Chicago's Soldier Field, yet it feels overwhelmingly large.
"It is an architectural marvel with its retractable roof and sliding window wall on the north end of the stadium, which looks out to downtown Indianapolis."
The review gave the stadium high marks and made special mention of the two video screens for showing plays, replays and special announcements. It also received recognition for the ample legroom between seats and ticket prices.
And Colts fans earned praise, too.
"Colts fans are loyal, attentive, loud, and polite to visitors," Swaney wrote. "It's a rare package of total devotion without sacrificing complete regard for those around them. Visiting fans were treated with good-natured ribbing, but with hospitality.
"The fans are tremendous, and classy in their conduct, nearly without exception."
