HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (General Comments) * *
"We had a chance to take a look at the film. I looked at it in pretty good detail. We certainly had a lot of things we could have done better. We had some pretty good bright spots as well. (Jim) Sorgi did a pretty night job in terms of managing the offense and moving the offense. I think he functioned very well with the limited amount of time that he's had to practice. He did a nice job in that setting under those conditions. I think Chad Simpson added a spark to our return game. I think he averaged somewhere around 26 yards per return. A couple of young guys made some plays. Taj Smith made a couple of plays for us out there and did pretty well. We also learned a lot about a number of different guys. We are looking at making some decisions down the stretch. The decisions are going to be tough. We had a great opportunity to look at our younger players and see where they fit. We are reducing everything down a bit in terms of time today so the players won't be here as long as we anticipated. We will give them a little break before we head into the bulk of our work in preparations for Jacksonville on Monday."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On any updates on TE-Jamie Petrowski's injury)
"There is nothing new on his foot. He has a MRI today and they will take a good look at him. I haven't heard anything on him."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On LB-Clint Session's injury)
"Clint was an ankle. He'll be back and ready to go on Monday."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On any decision on DB-Bob Sanders)
"We haven't decided as of yet. As soon as we know we will release that. He's coming along pretty well. He's making real good progress. Once we confer with the doctors, we'll have the opportunity to take a look at every aspect of our team. We'll condense our thought and make some final decisions."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On K-Adam Vinatieri going through warm-ups last night)
"He went thought warm-ups. He kicked like he would normally kick during warm-ups. Not quite certain how he felt. We'll talk to him sometime today. We'll get a good sense after the doctors take a look at him and see where he is. We'll start to assess that situation then."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On the play of DB-Jerraud Powers)
"He's done very well. I think every time you see him on the field he typically shows up. He'll make something happen. He's an instinctive player. He is a heady player. He has a pretty good grasp of our defense. He continues to improve constantly. We are certainly pleased with his progress."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On other rookie performances)
"I can tell you that WR-Austin Collie has done well. He continues to get better. He has great work habits. He and Peyton (Manning) were out there working early yesterday for about a good 45 minutes prior to everyone else rolling along last night. He is a guy we are pleased with. RB-Donald Brown is a guy we've seen mature. He continues to get better and blossom. We will expect that to continue to escalate as time goes on. K-(Pat) McAfee is another young guy you talk about in terms of the rookies who has certainly done well. All these guys can't stay status quo. You have to continue to improve in this league. We anticipate these guys will continue to improve in order to be the kind of players we expect them to be. DT-Fili Moala is certainly feeling his way and getting a good sense of what we are doing. He has a little ways to go and continues to improve. There are a number of young guys that have done a good job for us."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On tough decisions for the cuts)
"The tough decisions will be across the board. There will be a lot of real fine football players that we won't be able to keep. It's not going to be an easy decision."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On what he learned from his backups against Cincinnati)
"I think the main objective is to take a look at individual performance. Oftentimes, the scoreboard circumstances skew how you feel. When you don't win, you don't feel real good about it regardless who is playing for you. What you have to do in this situation is look at really what you are trying to get accomplished, and then try to learn something about individual players. You assess it that way. You look it to see how they fit in and where they can help our squad and how we can construct the best 53 (players)."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On how he feels about going into the season)
"I feel good about where we are. We have been able to work and really improve in some areas that I think we needed improving. Some of them may not be completely obvious to you right now. For us, in terms of watching them practice on a daily basis, we can see it. We have to be able to carry it from the practice field into the game. Where we are right now, we feel pretty good about it. We are excited about what we have in terms of our team. We'll get it narrowed down in terms of our 53 (players)."
