HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On making OL-Kyle DeVan a starter) Wednesday* *
"He is very consistent. He's obviously a very tough and stout player there in the middle. He certainly understands his job. He does a great job in terms of executing. He doesn't make many mistakes."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On having ball security awareness in Baltimore) Wednesday
"They are good at taking it away. That's for certain. They do a great job of stripping and really focusing in on that and knocking it loose when they can. They are a real opportunistic defense. We are going to do what we normally do. We are very, very concerned about ball security week in and week out. It's a point of emphasis for us as well. We certainly are aware of them and how they go about their business on that side of the ball. It's a very tough group of guys that play for them."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On any updates on RB-Joseph Addai) Wednesday
"We anticipate he'll practice some today."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On any updates on DB-Antoine Bethea) Wednesday
"It'll be questionable whether or not he does anything today. We anticipate during the course of the week he'll be better."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On Ravens LB-Ray Lewis) Wednesday
"He is one of the premier players that have ever played this game. He's a guy who'll certainly be a Hall of Famer at some point in time when he retires. He's as effective a leader and as fine a football player that has played that position in a long time. We have a lot of respect for him."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On the Ravens LB-Ray Lewis making defensive adjustments) Wednesday
"I'm not really certain how many he makes but there are some. He does the same thing that Gary (Brackett) does for us. Both guys are like the quarterbacks for their defense. They make a lot of adjustments according to formations. There are certain things they want to be accomplished. Obviously he's (Ray Lewis) in charged for communicating that. He does a very good job of it."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On any updates on WR-Anthony Gonzalez and DB-Kelvin Hayden) Wednesday
"There is nothing new. They are indeed getting better. When they will be back I'm not real sure."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On Ravens DB-Ed Reed) Wednesday
"He may be one of the most instinctive players I've ever seen on a football field. He can cover an incredible amount of ground in a short period of time. Not only does he run fast, is a big hitter, but his instincts are just unbelievable. I think oftentimes players get a sense that they can see the entire field in a chunk and know what's coming and know what to anticipate. He is one of those guys. He reacts like you can't believe. He'll amaze you at least two or three times when you watch him on film. He just makes incredible plays."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On the development of Ravens QB-Joe Flacco) Wednesday
"He is doing a great job. You can tell his maturity level. He just continues to get better. He's comfortable within the scheme of the offense. He certainly has the physical tools. He can make every throw. He has a very, very strong arm. He also has the intellect. They (Ravens) can mix things up on you and change the pace of their offense. You can see that he gets things set in terms of what audibles they want. He has done a tremendous job I think in terms of how he's progressing. He is certainly a very, very fine quarterback."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On the Patriots 4th-and-2 call) Wednesday
"The last couple of days I've been focusing in on Baltimore. It would be tough for anybody to turn on the television and not see something discussed or see something come across the print media. I've put that game behind me. My honest opinion is unless I was standing in his (Bill Belechick) shoes, had all the different variables he was dealing with, It would be very difficult for me to judge. No one knows like a person in that position. I'm certainly not going to be judgmental. I think all of us that hold these positions understand that you're only one call away from a real controversy. It's also why we coaches do what we do because we are not afraid of it. That's for certain."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On playing in Baltimore) Wednesday
"There's not a stadium we walk into to where we don't get the absolute best from the fans. They're loud. They're enthusiastic. They are really trying to root their team to victory. It's going to be just like what we've seen in every stadium. It'll be a fever-pitch sort of atmosphere. There's heighten enthusiasm. That's also why our guys play the game, too."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On K-Matt Stover) Wednesday
"He certainly has been excellent. "He's also a veteran who understands how to get prepared. The example he sets in terms of his preparation is invaluable. He is very settled. He's not a guy you have to be concerned about. He is a true professional."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On the Colts win streak and his thoughts) Wednesday
"It's really a team game. I was with Coach (Tony) Dungy and the rest of the staff on teams that were 9-0 before and a team that was 13-0. I've been in the same situation, and I'm looking at it exactly the same way. We are really concerned about the next one. I really don't have any guarantees at this point."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On if he hears from any other coaches) Wednesday
"Certainly. Like most guys, they are happy to see your team do well. I do the same thing for them. For different teams that win, I'll call guys that I know and say, 'Great job', and 'Keep it going.' We email more than anything else these days. We have a pretty tight fraternity."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On how tough it is to win 18 in a row) Wednesday
"It's certainly hard to do. I think it's a credit to guys who were here last year who were able to start it, and guys who are obviously trying to keep it going. It's a new cast of characters in some respect, but a lot of core veterans. It's not easy to do. It's very, very tough. We certainly understand that. What we try to do and what helps us is we don't try to look at the grand scheme. We look at, incrementally, what we have to get done, just find a way to get yourself in position to win the next game. That's the most important thing."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On the Colts punt return coverage against New England) Wednesday
"That's how it goes in this league. You can play good for an extended period of time and then all it takes is one. We just got out of our lanes. We missed a couple of tackles and he (Wes Welker) got loose on us. We have to make certain that doesn't happen again. Baltimore has as talented a guy returning kicks for them as well."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (On TE-Dallas Clark needing one catch to break John Mackey's club positional record) Wednesday
"It's quite an accomplishment when it does indeed happen. Dallas is a guy who works extremely hard. He's been a valuable weapon for us. Even more so, his presence in our locker room has been just absolutely incredible. He loves what he does. You can tell just by his attitude in the meeting rooms. He's a great guy to be around. He also is a fierce competitor. It also would be an incredible feat because the guy (Mackey) whose record he would break was something special. That was a special guy who held that record for so long."
