HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (general comments on Jacksonville)Monday, September 19, 2005
"After looking at the tape, the thing to be pleased about was getting the win. We knew it was going to be a tough game going in. All four of our games against Jacksonvilleprevious to this had been tough games, and we were able to dig it out in the fourth quarter and that's what good teams do. We obviously have to play better all the way around. We had some flashes of things that were really good. Our running game I thought was very productive against a real tough team to run against. We probably have to stick with it a little bit more, especially as we get into their end of the field. Defensively we played with a lot of energy. We're still not quite as sharp on some things we need to be sharp on, but the thing that was good about our guys is they hung in there and they fought and kept them out of the end zone. Special teams we did some good things. We still had one punt that got returned to our end that could have been disastrous."
HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on DB-Bob Sanders and DB-Mike Doss)Monday, September 19, 2005
"Bob [Sanders] played pretty well. I think it was good for him [Mike Doss] to get back in the lineup, without playing in the preseason and much practice. He was a little bit rusty and probably missed some tackles he is normally going to make, but he played the whole game and that was pretty impressive."
HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on the defensive line)Monday, September 19, 2005
"The line has done a good job for us, especially in games like this when you can get after the passer a little bit. I think we're doing some things in the run game better, and we just have to be more consistent. We're showing some signs of being a tough group."
HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on the defense)Monday, September 19, 2005
"We're still not doing things as well as I would like in some areas. This is a defense that should not give up a lot of big plays. We shouldn't give up 40-yard passes and 40-yard runs. We had six balls on the ground and we didn't get any of them. The good thing is we're knocking them loose and making it happen, but we have to get turnovers and with the rush we had yesterday, to not have an interception shouldn't happen. So there are some things we still need to be better at."
HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on cause for concern for the offense)Monday, September 19, 2005
"We'll get that going. There is always cause for concern when you don't play as well as you would like, but that's the thing about being a full team, there's going to be games like this. There might be two during the year, and they might have to be back to back. When it happens, other elements have to be able to pick up the steam, and so far this year we have had that. The defense has been able to carry us and you're able to win. That's what it's all about. Our offense will get squared away, and they will begin to move the ball and start scoring, and there will be times when they have to pick up the slack for the defense. No, we are not concerned or think people have caught up with our offense and know how to play us. Jacksonvilleplayed us pretty smart, and we'll have to make some adjustments the next time we play them."
HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on taking a different approach on offense if teams continue to drop back in defense)Monday, September 19, 2005
"Well, I think you do. We're not going to sit back and let people dictate to us, but we are going to have to take advantage of what they are doing. If it means running the ball, and doing some things a little differently that way, I think we have the weaponry to do that."
HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on the defensive line being something special)Monday, September 19, 2005
"I think we have the makings. We have a special group rushing the passer. We have some inside guys who can win one on ones. We have two speed guys on the outside that you pretty much have to deal with, and most tackles are going to have to get help occasionally on either one of those guys. I think we have a unit who can put pressure on the passer, whether we can be consistent and do all of those other things that you have to do week in and week out, that's what the next few weeks will show. I know we have to stay healthy because we need that rotation system, but if we do I think we will be pretty good up front. When we have everyone, we have a nice wave of people that we can send in there."
