Head Coach Tony Dungy Quotes

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on C-Jeff Saturday and TE-Dallas Clark) “I really do not (have an update). My sense is it’s going to be a game-time decision.

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on C-Jeff Saturday and TE-Dallas Clark) * *

"I really do not (have an update). My sense is it's going to be a game-time decision. Jeff has obviously done more practicing than Dallas. I'd say he has a better chance. Dallas has a couple of busloads of people coming and that always makes you feel better, so we'll see what happens."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on DB-Kelvin Hayden)

"Kelvin, I think, is going to try to practice (Friday). Kelvin told me that he feels like he'll be ready to go."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on TE-Jacob Tamme)

"Jacob is not going to practice (Friday). We're counting on not having him, but we'll see game time as well."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on if it's bad if two of four TEs are out of Sunday's game)

"Not too bad, if no one else gets hurt. We still will have Tom Santi and Gijon (Robinson) and we'll be able to run our two tight end package and then we have our three wide receiver package. So, it really doesn't hurt you to start the game. We just can't afford to get anybody else hurt."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on how quickly DT-LaJuan Ramsey can get up to speed)

"Fortunately, he has a lot of background in this. He played at USC. (USC Head Coach) Pete Carroll was with (Tampa Bay Defensive Coordinator) Monte Kiffin. It's a long story, but everything goes back to the same origin and the same playbook. So, he knows a lot about what we're doing and actually did pretty well (Wednesday), so he has a chance to play and help us."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on what he wants to see from the defense this week that he didn't see last week)

"We just have to play sharper. You can't have hesitancy. We had a little hesitancy and it hurt us in the run game. If we have the same type of hesitancy with (Minnesota RB) Adrian Peterson, it won't be pretty. You have to be on top of every detail with him. It's like playing (former Detroit RB) Barry Sanders or (former Chicago RB-Walter) Payton or any of the really, really good backs. You can do everything right and it still may not be a good day for you. So, you can't afford to make any mistakes and we just have to be sharper."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on where that hesitancy came from)

"From some plays you hadn't seen, blocking schemes that are a little bit different and trying to be precise and be sure. We just have to know our rules and pull the trigger and play fast."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on a couple of big plays determining games)

"We were talking about the Super Bowl before (the Bears game) and I said (Bears Head Coach) Lovie (Smith), I'm sure, said, 'Hey, we'll use the same game plan. If we eliminate three plays, we win the Super Bowl.' That's how it is. When you say that, people think you're trying to paint too rosy of a picture, but most of the time, even in games that are 10-point or 13-point games, it's a play here or there that makes a difference. Watching Green Bay and Minnesota, there's a jump ball that Green Bay's guy catches that sets up one score and a punt return and they had a breakdown and (Green Bay RB) Ryan Grant made a long run and that was basically the game. The punt return was well-blocked and well-run. The jump ball could've been easily knocked down. They had one guy play the wrong gap and instead of it being a one-yarder, it was a 50-yard run. So, Minnesota's saying, 'Hey, we did a lot of good things, but we lost the game.' That's how, a lot of the time, it goes."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on stopping 3rd-and-long plays)

"That's where you have to make your hay. You have to get the other team off the field. When we're playing well, we make those plays and we force turnovers or we force punts."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on what went into deciding to waive WR-Courtney Roby)

"Just, really, personnel and where we were injury-wise. Courtney did a great job and was one of our better special-teams players, but it was just the way everything with the tight ends and defensive linemen and injuries, that was the one place we could go right now."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on who will return kicks)

"(RB) Justin Forsett. We like Justin and he's going to help us. (The punt returner) probably will be Justin, also."

HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on hearing outside conversations on the headsets)

"It can happen. I haven't gotten that. I've heard other coaches that have said that. Ours have been more situations where you're talking and it's off and they're trying to get it fixed. There are different frequencies you hear things and you're not sure exactly what it is. That's just part of it. I haven't had any of those really, really bad ones."
