HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on if RB-Dominic Rhodes will be ready to help tomorrow against Tennessee) Wednesday, December 8, 2010
"He's retained quite a bit, which is good. He's been with us twice and has a good sense of what we do. He's been in other systems where there is always going to be some kind of carryover. He may be able to do a little bit for us, we're just not quite certain at this point."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on will RB-Dominic Rhodes return kicks) Wednesday, December 8, 2010
"At this point, DB-Justin (Tryon) is going to return kicks. DB-Cornelius (Brown) will be his backup. Dom, if we needed him, could probably do a little bit for us."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on with the injuries in the secondary does he expect Tennessee to test them deep) Wednesday, December 8, 2010
"I think they will do that anyway. I think that is a part of what they do. They make you honor the run, and once they get the run going, they are going to take some shots down the field. They have two guys that can run, that are tall and they like to try to take the top off the defense, just in terms of the routes in which they run, deep posts, takeoffs and deep crossing routes. We anticipate that they are going to try to throw it deep. It's what they do."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on the team's reaction to seeing RB-Dominic Rhodes back) Wednesday, December 8, 2010
"He's an energetic, enthusiastic guy. The guys that were here when he was around understand how much fun he is to be around and play with. He has an infectious smile. He's a gregarious guy, but also a guy that is absolutely passionate about playing. The interaction was good, and the guys certainly are happy to see him back."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on Tennessee QB-Kerry Collins) Wednesday, December 8, 2010
"He's always been a very good competitor, a guy who is tough, physically tough and mentally tough. You don't hang around in this league as long as he's been in the league without some special qualities, some intangibles that give you an opportunity to go out and win each week. He has those. He's a good leader. Obviously, he's a big, imposing figure that can wing the ball. He'll play well."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on expecting Tennessee's best) Wednesday, December 8, 2010
"I would not expect anything less (than their best). We've always had a very spirited rivalry between the two teams. I don't think this one is going to be any different. Regardless of what the records are and what's at stake, it's always the same."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on being on the lookout for trick plays from Tennessee) Wednesday, December 8, 2010
"We do have to be aware. There was one time here a couple of years ago that they opened the game with an onside kick. That is certainly a possibility."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on the schedule this season having a lot of division games at the end of the season) Wednesday, December 8, 2010
"We play them as they come. I think it was a bit of a concentrated effort to put those games toward the end of the year to kind of enhance the rivalry within the divisions. I think there are a number of teams that all across, as you look at the schedule, that are facing a similar scenario. I think it was a concerted effort to do so. As they looked at the schedule, they probably thought it would improve the ratings, and the ratings have been great, so maybe they are trying to tweak those a little bit more."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on if having the division games at the end of the season works to their advantage) Wednesday, December 8, 2010
"We're fortunate that we are where we are and have the opportunity that we have. Regardless of where it falls, it just so happens this particular stretch we got a four-game stretch we are looking at and really have to take it still one at a time, but it does give us a unique opportunity here towards the end of the year."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on if DB-Kelvin Hayden is trending in the right direction) Wednesday, December 8, 2010
"He's doing okay. We'll know a little bit more here shortly."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on who is the team's fourth cornerback) Wednesday, December 8, 2010
"In dime, we'd have to end up bringing one of our safeties down, probably (DB-Mike) Newton, if we did that. That's where our dime back comes from."
HEAD COACH JIM CALDWELL (on how everybody came back yesterday from Sunday's game) Wednesday, December 8, 2010
"They feel like they typically feel on a Tuesday, still a little sore, but they did indeed practice well. They had good focus, and I think they came back okay. Short weeks make it interesting physically."
