HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on today's game) Post-game vs. Jacksonville 10/24/04
"The mark of a really good team is to play well week in and week out. It was our goal today to continue on with that momentum we had but we really didn't get that done. We played a very good team today. They out-played us. It started from the opening kickoff. We made some mistakes that are hard to overcome. We had 12 penalties and two turnovers. It kind of took the momentum away from ourselves every time we had a chance to get it. They, on the other hand, took advantage of their opportunities, kept their poise and played well. They played like the veteran team today and we played like the young team that was trying break into that. We will have to get going with more focused practice and see if we can get that back. They did a great job. We came in against their offense, trying to take away (RB-Fred) Taylor and (WR-Jimmy) Smith, and we weren't able to do that. Those guys made big plays. We had some things we thought we could get offensively and we did to a certain extent, but not enough to win the ballgame. We just have to give them a lot of credit for coming up here and getting it done."
HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on bye week affecting the game) Post-game vs. Jacksonville 10/24/04
"No, I don't think so. We had a normal week of practice. We did things the same way as we always do. We just didn't come out sharp. We almost doubled our penalty totals for the first five games today. We just weren't sharp. But I would not blame it on the bye."
HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on field position) Post-game vs. Jacksonville 10/24/04
"Well field position hurt a lot. But they got the field position by out-playing us on special teams. They kicked off, we're getting the ball back with penalties, and our decision making, we are getting it inside the 15 and their getting out to the 35. When we had a couple of chances, we had the turnovers. We stopped the drive finally on the one-yard line. We had the chance to get it out of there and we missed Marvin (Harrison) on the long pass. We were behind the eight-ball on the field position, but that what happens when you are getting out-played."
HEAD COACH TONY DUNGY (on QB-Byron Leftwich) Post-game vs. Jacksonville 10/24/04
"He played another great game. He is doing the job for them, winning the close games at the end, keeping his poise, and doing the things that you want a quarterback to do. He is going to be outstanding. He is outstanding for them."
WR-BRANDON STOKLEY (on the Colts overall performance against Jacksonville) Post-game vs. Jacksonville 10/24/04
"We made too many mistakes, had too many turnovers and basically just didn't play well. You can't make as many mistakes as we did and expect to win in this league."
WR-BRANDON STOKELY (on whether the bye week affected the Colts' performance) Post-game vs. Jacksonville 10/24/04
"That wouldn't be accurate at all. We were prepared, we were ready to go. We didn't perform, we didn't execute…too many penalties. You can't win like that."
WR-BRANDON STOKLEY (on if the offense was frustrated) Post-game vs. Jacksonville 10/24/04
"It was. We hurt ourselves. I had a fumble, we had another fumble and a couple of penalties, and that cost us. And if you do that, you're not going to win many games."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (general game comments) Post-game vs. Jacksonville 10/24/04
"It was pretty much a combination of us hurting ourselves. That would be the summary of this game. Jacksonville's an excellent team and they played well, but I thought we made too many mistakes. They really hurt us."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on the rust coming off a bye week) Post-game vs. Jacksonville 10/24/04
"We just can't make mistakes, can't have penalties, can't have turnovers against a good team like Jacksonville, whose offense is capable of scoring at any point. We just have to execute better. We've done that in our four wins, and our two losses, I think you can say some turnovers and some costly mistakes on our own have really hurt us."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on playing Jacksonville) Post-game vs. Jacksonville 10/24/04
"One thing about playing against Jacksonville is that they do a good job of running the clock. We had seven plays in the third quarter. So when you do have possessions, you need to take advantage of them. On our scoring drives, we did make good plays and the ones where we had to punt or turned it over, it was really a combination of us making mistakes and getting in third-and-long."
QB-PEYTON MANNING (on Jacksonville's defense) Post-game vs. Jacksonville 10/24/04
"I thought they mixed it up a good bit. Sometimes they were rolling to Marvin with a safety and a corner. Sometimes they were rolling to the other side. That play to Marvin in the fourth quarter was huge. It tied it up there and gave us momentum, but we just couldn't quite keep it."
DB-BOB SANDERS (on the game) Post-game vs. Jacksonville 10/24/04
"Today, we had a chance to make a couple of (defensive) plays and we really did not capitalize on those. We played hard and we wanted to come in and make big plays. We had a chance to do that, but we made some good plays and we also had some bad ones. "
DB-JASON DAVID (on the game) Post-game vs. Jacksonville 10/24/04
"We prepared well and had a good week of practice, but we just did not go out there and play the game we wanted to play. I think the defense did a good job, as everyone did their assignment, because no one made any mental mistakes, but at the same time, there are a few things that we need to tighten up on. There is always room for improvement. A loss is a loss no matter who you lose to, whether it is the best team or the worst team."
