Chris Polian Named Vice President and General Manager

INDIANAPOLIS – Indianapolis Colts Owner and C.E.O. Jim Irsay announced Friday the promotion of Chris Polian to Vice President and General Manager.

"I am very pleased to announce the promotion of Chris Polian to Vice President and General Manager," said Irsay. "Chris has been involved in every aspect of our football operations for the past 12 years. His direct contributions are part of the reasons why the Colts have been among the league's top teams for an extended period of time. Chris is a very talented individual who has worked his way through the ranks, and we are pleased to have him serve in this position. Historically, the Colts have been an organization to promote internally, and I feel this will allow the club the best opportunity to continue competing at the level we have sustained for the past few seasons."

Polian, who signed a long-term contract, will oversee the day-to-day operations in all football-related areas of the franchise. Working alongside his father, Colts President Bill Polian, he will be tasked with keeping Indianapolis among the most successful NFL teams.

Since the start of the 1999 season, Indianapolis has earned a 124-46 regular-season record, the best mark in the league by a margin of seven games over its nearest competitor. The club has earned playoff appearances in a league-best nine of the past 10 years. The team has won six division titles, appeared in two conference championship games and won a World Championship. Along the way, Indianapolis became the only team to win 12 games in six consecutive seasons. The club has won 10 games from 2002-09, with that eight-year streak marking second-longest in NFL history. The accomplishments have come with the team annually performing well in the draft and free agency signings. The Colts traditionally have fielded teams that rank among the youngest in the NFL.

Polian first served with the club as Director of Pro Scouting (1998-2000). He held the title of Assistant Director of Football Operations from 2001-03, and was promoted to Assistant General Manager/Football Operations in 2004. Polian was serving in his fifth season as Vice President of Football Operations prior to the promotion.

Polian worked with the Carolina Panthers for four years prior to joining the Colts (1994-96, Pro Scout; 1997, Pro Personnel Coordinator). He was an assistant in player personnel for the Sacramento Gold Miners in 1993.

Polian, 38, earned a bachelor's degree in communications from John Carroll University in 1993. A native of New York City, Polian and his wife, Debbie, have three children, Jack (7), Caroline (5) and Kate (2).
