Chargers LB-Shaun Phillips Conference Call

LB-SHAUN PHILLIPS (on his overall performance this season) November 7, 2006 “We’re playing solid.  Obviously we feel we should have more sacks than we do right now.  Sometimes teams are getting it off fast, other times we’re getting double-teamed.  It’s part of the game.

LB-SHAUN PHILLIPS (on his overall performance this season) November 7, 2006* *

"We're playing solid.  Obviously we feel we should have more sacks than we do right now.  Sometimes teams are getting it off fast, other times we're getting double-teamed.  It's part of the game.  When you're a good player, people are going to take advantage of that.  Take two players off when they get a chance, make sure you're not the one who's going to disrupt their game.  That's what we've been seeing."

LB-SHAUN PHILLIPS (on the possibilities of being a Colt) November 7, 2006

"I always liked the Colts because of their style of pass rushing, with (Dwight) Freeney and (Robert) Mathis (Robert) down there.  I got a chance to hang out with Freeney a few times when I was in college because a couple of his high school teammates went to Purdue with me, and he used to come up quite a bit.  And I'm a big fan of Tony Dungy.  I would have loved playing for the Colts coming out of college.  I'm happy where I'm at and wouldn't change it for the world."

LB-SHAUN PHILLIPS (on any interest the Colts might have expressed) November 7, 2006

"Tony (Dungy) talked to me at the combine.  They did like me but they had players at that position already and they didn't want to have to stand me up or they didn't know if they'd put me down, that's what he expressed to me.  He (Dungy) said I like you as a player but I don't think we'll have room for you where we're at, not in a disrespectful way."

LB-SHAUN PHILLIPS (on the blocking scheme in the 3-4) November 7, 2006

"In the 3-4 you don't know who's coming, plus you have one more athlete on the field.  You get a better athlete as opposed to a defensive lineman.  I'm a firm believer in having the best athletes on the field at all times."

LB-SHAUN PHILLIPS (on his impressions of LaDainian Tomlinson) November 7, 2006

"He's one of the most humble guys I've ever met.  He's one of those guys that leads by example.  He's in the weight room everyday and working hard.  You see him taking care of his body every day after practice.  He doesn't do a bunch of  'rah rah, rahing.'  He goes out and gets the job done.  Last year I think he got two or three Offensive Player-of-the-Week (honrs) and coach announced it and he didn't crack a smile.  It's the bigger picture with him.  It's not just the fact of individual achievements.  He wants to win a Super Bowl, and that's just the fact of the matter.  He wants to be a champion, not just an individual champion,  He wants to do it as a team."

LB-SHAUN PHILLIPS (on not playing against LaDainian) November 7, 2006

"I am happy I don't have to play against him.  It's a blessing that he's on our team. I couldn't ask for a better situation because I get to talk personally to LT and he's just a great guy and he rubs off on the whole team."

LB-SHAUN PHILLIPS (on their preparation when premier players are out) November 7, 2006

"No, they (Colts) do a good job of creating depth.  That's why they got the kid (Anthony) Gonzalez in the first round, because he can get the job done.  You know Marvin (Harrison) probably has a few more years in him.  I mean he still looks
