INDIANAPOLIS —A former Indianapolis Colts coach is headed back to the college ranks.

Frank Giufre, who has spent the last six seasons as an offensive quality control coach in Indy, recently was named the offensive line coach at UConn under head coach Randy Edsall.

"I'm pleased to have Frank join our staff and coach our offensive line, Edsall said in a statement. "His attention to detail and ability to teach and coach the fundamentals and techniques of offensive line play will benefit our young offensive line. Having college and pro experience really fit what I was looking for in an offensive line coach and after talking with Bruce (Arians), Chuck (Pagano) and Coach Cosgrove (former Maine head coach) it was apparent to me that Frank was our guy. He has a great ability to connect with the student-athletes and will be a tremendous asset on the recruiting trail."

In his time with the Colts, Giufre served as assistant tight ends coach in 2012 and assistant offensive line coach from 2013-17.

Indianapolis was actually Giufre's first NFL coaching stop. He began as a grad assistant at the University of Miami from 2001-03, moved on to Sacred Heart, where he was offensive line coach from 2004-06, and then took on a job at Maine as its run game coordinator/offensive line/tight ends coach.

The Colts now have had 10 coaches from their 2017 staff formally join another team's staff for 2018:

• Former assistant head coach/offensive line coach Joe Philbin, tight ends coach Jim Hostler and assistant special teams coach Maurice Drayton are now with the Green Bay Packers.

• Former offensive assistant/assistant quarterbacks coach Tim Berbenich and running backs coach Jemal Singleton are now with the Oakland Raiders.

• Former wide receives coach Sanjay Lal is expected to assume the same position with the Dallas Cowboys.

• Former quarterbacks coach Brian Schottenheimer is now with the Seattle Seahawks.

• Former special teams coordinator Tom McMahon and defensive backs coach Greg Williams are now with the Denver Broncos.

Former Colts area scout Dave Razzano also has been hired on with the Raiders as their Director of Football Research.

The Colts, meanwhile, are yet to hire a new head coach after their decision to part ways with Chuck Pagano after six seasons. General manager Chris Ballard said after the season that the team's new head coach will have input into the members of his staff in Indy.
