Frequently Asked Questions
What is the NFL's Global Markets Program?
The Global Markets Program launched in January 2022 and grants NFL Clubs access to international markets for fan engagement and marketing activations as a part of a long-term effort to drive NFL fan growth and grow American football beyond the United States.
NFL clubs can apply for rights to selected international markets by submitting proposals for the International Committee to review each spring. Clubs are awarded rights for at least a five-year term to pursue activities in that international market that are largely consistent with what they can do in their home market.
Why did the Colts apply for Global Markets rights in Germany, Austria and Switzerland?
After seeing the appetite for American football firsthand during the 2023 Frankfurt Games, the Colts are excited to expand the reach of the Horseshoe internationally and have found vibrant markets that make sense for the team.
What's more, the Colts and the state of Indiana have many existing ties to the DACH region, which will help accelerate engagement with fans and businesses in the three countries.
What does this mean for Colts fans in these countries?
This will provide more international exposure and connections for our fans, partners, Indiana businesses and many more across the state of Indiana. In year one, the Colts introduced fan engagement, business development and other marketing initiatives in the three countries. Continued efforts will include building access to Colts broadcasts, strengthening existing fan clubs and creating new fan clubs in the DACH region, promoting opportunities for young people to learn and participate in the game, including growing flag football, and much more.
Will the Colts play games in Germany, Austria or Switzerland?
The Colts played their first game in Germany in 2023, defeating the New England Patriots. The NFL announces the full slate of international games prior to the beginning of each season, including the Colts return to Germany playing in the first-ever NFL regular season game in Berlin's Historic Olympic Stadium in fall 2025.
Will the Colts bring players to Germany, Austria or Switzerland?
The Colts plan to host events and activities across the DACH region that will engage fans. Current and former players are a part of that strategy, along with Colts mascot, Blue.
Will this bring any changes to the Colts fan experience in Indiana and the U.S.?
The fan experience in Indiana and the U.S. will not be negatively affected by the international expansion, and Colts fans will receive the same level of service, engagement and fun they have come to expect over the years.
