Join us on the Road to 100 High School Teams

Flag football is more than just a game. It's a gateway to building foundational football skills, fostering teamwork, and creating inclusive opportunities for young athletes. As one of the fastest-growing sports in the world, flag football is gaining unprecedented recognition. We are proud to champion this movement, aiming to support and sustain the launch of 100 High School Girls Flag teams by the fall of 2025. Because we believe the more girls who play, the stronger the game will be.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I bring flag football to my school?

Students and parents can reach out to their school administration. Your Athletic Director or Principal are ultimately the people who will commit a school to participate. When reaching out to your school admin, please make sure to let them know that there is interest within your student body. Please also fill out the interest form: here. Anyone can fill this out.

How many girls does it take to start a team?

Most teams have anywhere between 10-15 players. Some teams have seen success with 14-20 players so they are able to compete in a full scrimmage while also having subs.

How often do teams practice?

Most schools practice between 1-3 days a week for 1-2 hours.

How can I navigate limited facility availability?

You don't need a football field. You just need some open grass or field space. Whether that be the outfield of a softball or baseball field, a soccer field, or just on an open field or park near your school. You can also use a gym to run drills safely.

How many games will be played?

Teams will be required to play 7 games to be eligible to qualify for the postseason. This postseason format is being finalized and will be shared closer to the season. If teams still want to participate but will not be able to meet this minimum, they can still play as many games as they can.

How can I garner interest in girls flag football?

To gauge interest within the student body, the Colts recommend hosting callout meetings, posting announcements on school message boards and websites, and sending polls out to see who is interested. Students should also gather a list of names of those who are interested in playing from their classmates, teammates, and friends.

What if my school is smaller in population, but we still want to field a team?

If your school hosts powderpuff during homecoming, there is a good chance there is already interest within your school. We have seen a lot of schools who have dual participation from all fall sports athletes, most notably soccer and Unified Flag Football. A lot of the partner athletes from Unified Flag Football tend to be the leaders on teams who are playing already.

How do I create a practice plan?

Schools will receive one USA Football coaching membership as part of the $10,000 package, which includes coaching resources, practice plans, offensive/defensive systems to implement, etc.

What staff would be needed to start a team?

Most schools have anywhere from 2-4 coaches.

Can athletes play more than one fall sport?

This is up to the discretion of each school, but there are no set restrictions of dual participation. Some past schools have had athletes on JV teams who also participate in flag.

How many players are on the field during a game?

The game is played 7 v 7.

How can we get schools near us involved in girls’ flag?

Reach out to those school's athletic directors. Let them know your school is interested in participating. Having more schools participate in your area will give you more playing opportunities for your athletes. Send an email with those contacts and include Bryce Chretien on the email.

What opportunities are there for flag players after high school?

There are over 65 collegiate programs that offer flag football at the varsity or club level across the country. Some universities and colleges even offer athletic scholarships for Women's Flag athletes! In 2028, the Summer Olympics will feature Flag Football as an Olympic sport for men and women!
